From iPhone 7 and newer, the iPhones come with an IP67 rating that makes them “splash“ resistant. ​
For non IP67 devices, usage of waterproof case is recommended at water.
Location updates are optimized to minimize energy consumption. ​It is possible to run the app for up to 6 hours without charging. For longer trips I recommend the usage of a small power bank.

Data privacy:
VelocitySail reads your gps positions while the app is in use.
The gpx file which is written by the app is anonymized and does not contain any other data from your device beside the logged locations.
You keep the control of your track data by sending as email or deleting it from your device.
