I came to TMTD after playing a huge amount of Vampire Survivors and looking for something similar.
20 Minutes definitely doesn’t disappoint but it does suffer from some of the same issues. Mostly being a bit too opaque.
My two main gripes are these:
- When choosing an upgrade, there’s no easy way to see which version of a power you already have so you feel like you might be accidentally replacing one instead of adding additional capability.
- When trying to work out synergies, you have a list of icons for those you’ve already picked up and a text list of abilities in the synergies screen. You have to somehow remember which is which from some pretty similar looking icons. You could at least add the option to tap on abilities in your list to see their names.
Ideally, you’d do what VS does and make it clear from the upgrade select screen which choices can synergise with things you already have.
Apart from those and some other minor niggles, I’m having a blast 👍

Actually a fun game. 100% based.
I like this game. No forced ads. Balanced progression so you don’t need to buy anything. Honestly one of the best mobile games on my phone.

A bit of a bummer you can’t pay to remove ads. Once an ad killed the sound in the game which was a real bummer!!

The characters have diverse abilities which play off different power-ups in unique ways.
The weapons are varied all feel different to each other.
The music and SFX match the design and encourage intensity
Controller support is in the initial menu and in the actual survival modes. It doesn’t work on character select and some other menus. I tested with an Xbox controller.
The ads (and frequent deaths) can turn a 20 minute session into 40. I was didn’t find a “remove ads” in app purchase and was about to furiously uninstall. I’m happy to find there’s a premium version here on the App Store. Now I can happily uninstall.
One of the best mobile games I’ve ever played and probably the only game I’ll ever leave a review
The effort put in to this game is obvious, and even though it looks amazing and runs amazing it doesnt drain my charge nearly as much as other mobile games, so its surprisingly low capacity. I keep finding new features and new ways to scale my abilities every time I play, abilities that are unique to the game and each have their own gimick that allows for different play styles. I adore the way the game lets you create your own build in a backwards way, where some characters and weapons are clearly designed to go hand in hand, and you can even change your build to work best with the abilities in game. The strat I used to beat my first game was using Diamond and a crossbow, hoping to scale my holy arts since the crossbow needs to reload after only one bullet. Its this sort of thing that I love, because even though the crossbow isn’t amazing on it’s own it scales amazing with certain abilities. Diamonds high initial HP also booster the holy arts after a couple of upgrades. I also have to say the game is incredibly rewarding without becoming easy for any length of time. After scaling an ability that you’ve been working on all game you immediately become powerful and dominate everything, you gain an ubandance of EXP and it just feels amazing. All of a sudden thr next wave comes around and you need to work your way up again, its some incredible design. Can’t think of a single critiscism, even if it’s constructive, there’s always new modes to make the game harder and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored.
