Description

The next generation of additive synthesis
Additive synthesis is a sound synthesis technique that creates timbre by adding sine waves together. The timbre of musical instruments can be considered to consist of multiple harmonic or inharmonic partials or overtones. VirSyn already has a remarkable track record of products ( CUBE, POSEIDON ) trying to make this virtually unlimited synthesis method manageable for creative sound designers and musicians. AddStation is the next step forward giving you a tool to explore completely new sonic territory. The massive amount of sine waves in AddStation - thousands per voice - together with unique morph sequencing blocks blur the frontiers between analog and digital sonic realms.
And all this integrated in all relevant iOS production environments especially the emerging AUv3 AudioUnit standard.

AddStation Reviews

One of my best synths

Midimania on

United Kingdom

I purchased this awesome synth last September (2021) and have used it extensively in many Cubasis3 projects, it really has mind blowing presets that can be expanded further to create even more complex sounds. There are many times where I just go through the presets range to familiarise myself with them and end up creating a completely new project. This is definitely one of my “go to synths”.

Much much better than my words can say.

When I really appreciate something, I don’t particularly enjoy putting it into words. What I will say is, that this is very special indeed. I will also say that it’s the only synth I have heard that I want to learn all about. The most meaningful words I have to say are, thank you VirSyn.

No Master Tuning

I’d prefer a master tuning, and not only A at 440Hz. I've done my research on the this subject.

Frankly it’s out on its own in a new land of sonic possibilities

Using this app feels a bit like driving a more powerful car than you’re used to. It suddenly revs up and produces a depth and richness of sound that I just can’t get from other synths. It may be to do with the sheer level of minute control over the sound, down to individually tweaking each one of 512 partials in each of 7 blocks in each of 4 channels, plus modulation, plus sequencing and arpeggiator plus effects ... the interface does take a bit of getting used to but worth it. Oh and the new randomiser for creating usable random patches ... if you’re into evolving ambient sounds this is a must but it does a lot more.

Gorgeous additive synthesis (rich & deep)! 🎃

Additive synthesis is really special and unique (and somewhat of a niché) compared to the ubiquitous subtractive methodology (mainly due to its complexity to control and program effectively) but the touchscreen has essentially really opened up the exciting possibilities for this unique synthesis as drawing waveforms and modulations etc is as intuitive as it gets and consequently this synth is a joy to use and explore (and sounds really incredible)! It’s also really powerful as it has some really unique features which allows you to really push the envelope of what’s possible sonically!

Awesome synth

I’ve updated my review from 3* to 5* after spending some more time with it and the updates that have made editing easier with being able to solo the parts and blocks. It takes a bit of time to get used to but this synth is very powerful. The fact that you can alter the sound in different ways for each of the 512 partials is totally different from what you get with normal subtractive synths. For example, by changing the pan position at such a granular level you can widen the sound without the mono compatibility phasing issues other methods produce. Changing the decay at different levels for the partials can give a very nice plucked sound which would not be possible using a standard envelopes. If you want something a bit different then I recommend it.

Updates improved performance

Was having a lot of crashes, but update has improved performance.

Happy again!

All preset selection menu display problems now fixed. Would love to be able to play on screen keyboard without exiting the preset selection menu in order to audition presets easily, but that’s a minor thing. Great that the dev is being so responsive in fixing issues. Some great sonic potential here. Recommended.

Filling correspondence with support re sound output issues, the matter was quickly resolved. A big thumbs up to virsyn for the very rapid response.

An awesome synth with unmatched sounds

But please see if you can bring it up to compatibility with Apple Silicon Macs for Logic Pro and GarageBand. Thank you!
