TB Flowtones Virtual Analog Synthesizer and AUv3 / IAA plug-in
Thanks to it's true VA synthesis engine, the use of analog-modelled non-linear filters and extensive modulation options, Flowtones sounds warmer and more analog than digital romplers and wavetable-based synths.
TB Flowtones comes as stand-alone app (with IAA support) as well as AUv3/ IAA plugin.
True virtual analog synthesis features:
- 4 VCO architecture (two voice layers with two VCOs each)
- 4 synthesis engine types, in part modelled after famous analog synthesisers
- 36 analog VCO waveforms featuring all classic waveforms and more
- All VCO waveforms support pulse width modulation
- Full stereo and mono unison modes for each VCO independently
- Noise and subharmonic oscillators for each VCO
- Unique ring and self-modulation matrix
- High-quality, warm, non-linear filters (VCF) with over 30 filter types, including unique multi-resonance filters
Modulation features:
- Four LFOs with 30 waveforms each
- LFOs can modulate other LFOs, including themselves!
- Three additional envelope generators, with key velocity modulation
- Quick access to modulation strengths through context menus
- Hundreds of modulation signal paths available
- LFOs can produce noise as waveform to randomly modulate other parameters; for example to simulate slight variations in analog filter parameters as they happen in analog circuits.

What you should know:
- Inter-App Audio (IAA) can only use one instance of this app simultaneously. We recommend to use an AUv3 host to use multiple instances.
- Licenses acquired for this platform are not compatible with other platforms.
- Audio Unit (AUv3) extensions require an iPad mini 2, iPad 4 or later models.

Versatile synth, with rich sound, great FX and modulation
I love the rich and full sound this synth can create and the extensive modulation system allows patches with a lot of subtle, crazy or rhythmic movement to be created. There are many ways to create texture and depth in the patches, and with up to 4 VCO’s it’s possible to create some very fat sounds indeed.
Personally I’m not keen on the sequencer or many of the sequenced patches which tend to sound quite trancey and I would have much preferred an arpeggiator, but that’s just a personal preference and I’m sure there are other ways to use it.
A few more modulation targets e.g. on the xvco parameters would be nice but that’s a small thing.
Powerful, flexible
Being playing synths for 40 years now. Got pretty much all the AUV’s, so why add this to your collection. The ability to directly patch most control knobs directly to a wide selection of transients- multiple LFO’s, multiple envelopes makes this a very flexible and powerful beast. Add to that 4VCO’s and additional sub oscillators and there is some serious possibilities here. Love it.
My new go to synth
You get a lot of bang for your buck with this synth. Lots of knobs to fiddle with, all laid out in a way that makes total sense. Loads of modulation options. I got lost in this for ages. The FX ooze Toneboosters quality. Overall it sounds great. I think there’s more to come too, with a promise of more waveforms etc. Just get it!
