Tornado warning for Nanton

Bjldaddy on

Canada

The warning came while the storm was in town not before. I realize some of these weather systems happen quickly and I do appreciate having this warning system in place

very helpful

I appreciate very much your updates. I consider the communication since the catastrophic water main event to have been excellent. I’m a very ordinary Calgarian, although I don’t watch TV news. I rely on my phone and computer to update me. I know a lot about this issue through your YouTube presentations and alerts through these up dates. Thanks for keeping me informed. Thanks. It been easy to follow your rules regarding water use, as has most uncomplaining quiet Calgarians.

Thanks!

Need more info & updates

Hello! 1) Perhaps I’m not not looking in the right place, but as someone who does not live in Alberta, I need more detailed information on maps. You name a ‘general area’ (ie. Wood Buffalo) but seeing the red area on the map isn’t helpful to me, as I don’t know where towns and cities are located!! 2) Updates are way too slow- ie. Today is May 12, 2024, but the last update for a Critical Area was at 5:13pm YESTERDAY. Hourly updates would be much more useful - especially in critical conditions. 3) Maybe the following information is included on the Dashboard on the Alberta Wildfires page, but personally, I find that page a little confusing and includes too much information that’s not relevant or important at that moment to the people in the affected areas. It takes (me at least!) way too long to navigate through the page. I want something fast & simple that I can see as soon as I open the map. Besides the names of towns & cities, (and wildfire identification number), two things I WOULD like to see on the map (especially in the critical areas) are: a) In every hourly update, outlines on the map showing areas that the fires have moved through in one colour, impending immediate threat in another colour (red), and potential areas of concern in another colour. b) Along with that data, the current wind speed and direction in the outlined area, as well as the estimated spread rate of the fire would be VERY helpful. That would allow people to visually track how fast the fire is moving, amd make them aware of sudden changes in wind speed and direction. (ie. Is the following formula for calculating spread rate what is used by officials? Measurement used for critical areas is 10% of the Windspeed? So: 50 km winds= spread of (roughly) 5km/hour. So if a fire was 25 miles away, an ‘estimate’ (in critical/dry conditions) would be that the fire would be upon you within 5 hours. If that IS a relatively accurate ESTIMATION tool (I believe research has deemed it to be so), it would provide people with another tool that would help them prepare for evacuation. However, I DO realize that wind speed & direction can change drastically without warning, (as we have sadly witnessed in the past) so I think it is imperative that this is CONTINUOUSLY EMPHASIZED in every update. Just my thoughts and opinions on what would make the map/app more beneficial for me personally, and most importantly, I believe for residents of Alberta! Thanks! Patti

Make the affected area maps useful. Show details about the fire, not just county boundaries.

I get an alert at Beauvais Lake saying I am no longer in the area

Good app to have

Great app to have, only thing I’d like to see change is what alerts are put in there. The Saskatchewan alert app literally gives every alert possible. Like severe thunderstorm warnings. If the Alberta app can be updated to show all the alerts like the Sask one does, it will get five stars from me. As a storm chaser being able to get all severe thunderstorm warnings would be a+
