Our family has just returned from Ecuador - 3 regions: Galapagos, Amazon Basin, Cloud forest. I purchased Ridgely's: Field Guide to Ecuador - it is enormous and prohibitive to take. We found ths app - brilliant for so many reasons. Very comprehensive (except for Galapagos), easy to use, illustrations outline the important features most of the time, excellent list making functions, excellent comparative species function, good maps. Occasionally unstable. I contacted the app builders and they were very responsive to some suggestions for improvements. A must have for any avid birdwatcher visiting Ecuador - PS the birds there are very impressive indeed
I like the grouping of the birds and the description for each on the same page. I would like to have actual photos of the birds included and when looking at the map, it would be better to have the entire country shown and then highlight the areas the bird could be found in. I will continue to study these birds in preparation of my trip next year.
Just an excellent app. Still deep diving but really all you could want. Looking forward to studying as I plan my next trip to Ecuador.
Just started but seems very easy to search and has great detailed information.
I can use this app in the field for a broader catalogue of calls/songs than just Merlín. It’s also a good quick reference (easy to use and easy to find the bird you’re looking for).
This app is great and has been super helpful while traveling all through out Ecuador and Colombia!
I haven’t taken the app into the field yet, but my first impression is very favorable. It is laid out in a way that is very easy to use, and the sound recordings are a valuable feature that you can’t get in a printed field guide. The checklist feature is really nice too.
Illustrations and audio are good and the comparison feature is isn’t as good as Audubon’s but it’s nice enough. Very lacking on adding your observations unless you do it right in the field, which is often impractical. You have to go into the map application each and every time you want to add a bird to a list. Once you start a list, why not have a feature to add a sighting to it with the same date and location? Otherwise, what’s the point of giving a list a title? I obviously won’t be using it to keep track of my sightings on my upcoming trip, which was the main reason I forked over $25 for it - but it beats lugging a field guide around.
Heading to Ecuador in a few weeks and wanted an app to bring along in the field instead of lugging a book around. The app is very well organized and easy to navigate.
