Audio Flashcards App Reviews

Lol

Probably the worst app of its kind out there. Audio files keep needing to be downloaded after only exiting the app for about a minute or so. It will never download back either, so don’t get too attached to those voice cards. Don’t waste your time with this one. 👍

It crashed! But it still looks promising.

I’m learning the Japanese language as a beginner, and I really want a tool that will let me enter my own words and phrases, and then let me hear them with the iOS excellent, built-in, text-to-speech (TTS) functions. When I saw this app, I was excited! Unfortunately, after downloading the app on my iPhone 12 mini, I had a rough experience using it. First, there was not a clear onboarding process, and I had to guess *how* to start using the app. Eventually, after some tinkering, I entered a practice word, but the onscreen keyboard covered some essential buttons to take the next step. Then, after trying to use the TTS features, the app crashed. So, as version 1.2.8, the app has some UX issues and at least one significant bug. 🐞 Still, I’m really intrigued by what the developer promises. I think this app has great potential, and I’m going to keep my eye out for new versions.

Thanks for making this app!

I am constantly in my car and can wear earbuds at work. The ability to have audio flashcards is going to help me so much in school. THANK YOU!

Good tool for learning languages

It’s really been handy the only down side I’ve run into it the lack of a way to automate uploading audio files. Maybe Apple shortcuts support would be nice.

Great for a new language

This app has really helped me excel in learning a new language. Instead of reading the words, hearing them, and hearing your own pronunciation, has helped me to nail down some words faster. I also love that I can set it and go hands free on long commutes to work. Two fixes I think that could make the app better: 1) being able to search for flash cards that you have named. I have hundreds of flash cards and when I come across one I have pronounced wrong, I’m unable to edit from the review screen. Going back to the main deck of cards and scrolling through 100s to find the one that’s wrong is very challenging. Or at the very least have the option to sort alphabetically. 2) if item 1 gets updated this is less important, but I flagged 20 cards that were wrong or hard to understand. I went to re-record them and after marking one as unflagged, it lost all the other flagged cards. Thank you for making this app! It’s so close to perfect and really a game changer in my progress!

Wonderful app, perfectly made with no bugs

Top top class stuff

Glad this exists but…

FlyingEar on

First, when I was thinking this would be a great way to prep for stuff, I was surprised that there weren’t more options and, at the same time, very glad there was this app which had most of what I wanted. While I wish I could type in or import stuff so that a generated voice could read it, the fact that it will play both the prompt and the answer with a definable pause as well as continue playing without any user interaction makes it perfect for use while driving. I also appreciate the ability to make edits even if it’s basically re-recording then trimming/deleting the first version. In addition, I like being able to have nested folders that all play if the parent is chosen for review. The biggest downside to this app is lack of documentation (new explanations for some things but could use more) and behavior (why does it think I’m done reviewing for the day after one pass through and which of the other methods will mimic normal review?). It would be great to just keep the whole stack on repeat with a random order; perhaps, using the microphone, it could be set to determine if you gave the wrong answer and prioritize those. I’d also like the ability to review with the screen off and/or in the background while doing other stuff on my device. Finally, while I appreciate the fact that it can be used hands free, you can also hold it and mark your successes and failures. Unfortunately, if you mark a success before the playback is complete (or mostly), it’ll count it as skipped then going back takes a little more effort than you’d think plus you still have to listen again rather than simply marking it as complete. Basically, that mode is more frustrating than it is useful (don’t think it maintains stats). All in all, glad to have this app and glad it’s free.

Great for language learning!

I’ve been using this app to help with vocabulary building for a foreign language that I have general fluency with, and it is a GREAT resource, especially if your language learning needs don’t fit the one-size-fits-all that many apps offer. Creating audio flash cards is a simple process, you can customize and re-record them as needed, and the developers are super responsive to feedback - I asked if there was a chance to add the ability to review cards with the answer first and within a week, the developers had added the feature! Highly recommend this app for anyone looking for a customizable way to study something, especially with the ability to review via audio.

Missing one feature?

This app is very nice. But it’s missing a key feature of being able to play through the question and answer without interacting with the UI. I’d like it to play all by itself while I’m driving.
