Bagpipe Tuner App for Highland Bagpipes accurately detects your pipe chanter notes, drones and displays the note, frequency and pitch position. Detection is via the inbuilt microphone, or in noisy environments an external microphone like the HBT clip mic can be attached.

I was caught out by the changes in Privacy settings introduced in iOS 7 which restrict app access to the internal microphone, by default, if you miss the warning prompt, as I did. Fortunately, a quick mail to the Developer brought a clear solution:

Dear Pipers!
If you have recently updated to iOS7 and using the Bagpipe Tuner App, please make sure to allow Bagpipe Tuner access to use the internal mic when launched after the update. A screen prompt will appear seeking permission.
If you mistakingly bypass the prompt go to:
Settings > Privacy > Microphone > Bagpipe Tuner and enable the switch to show green which will turn the mic on.

Was my go to tuning app but for the longest time now it won’t even open across multiple iOS devices.

An amazing app for the money Easy to calibrate You can tune a whole band in no time It’s so easy anyone can use it to tune or learn to tune themselves Overall the best app for the money I just wish it did not use so much battery Other than that - a great app for a Piper or band at any level
Good App
It’s a good and accurate tuner. I really like the fact that you can pair it with a Bluetooth microphone.
However, I would give it five stars if you could manually calibrate it. It tends to learn too quickly and often not to the steady frequency that you need it tuned to, especially when self-calibrating to your own pipes.
Please update the app with that capability to make this app top notch.
Makes playing a well tuned bagpipe painless
When combined with the bluetooth clip microphone this tuner makes tuning the drones really easy and accurate. I constantly switch between my band and solo chanters, and this makes that painless.
Great tuner -- needs watch app!
I love this, especially when used with the Bluetooth mic.
Setting the target pitch is currently done in the iPhone settings, which is a little clumsy (it should be easily set with ing the app). Also,an accompanying watch app would be awesome (I could tune without having to balance my phone somewhere).
Worth the money.
What, no help file?
So I purchased and install Bagpipe Tuner and the only operational button I see is "learn" and still haven't figured how to make it work. Perhaps I am not using it correctly but without a FAQ or Help file, I will continue to struggle. Wish there was a "refund" option.

I have been piping for 40 years and this tuner on my iPhone is the best tuner to date!! I have used many different tuners and none of the old big bulky things have even come close, oh yea, it work on the iPad just fine if you do not have an iPhone or iPod touch!!!

Excellent tuner with one issue.
This is an excellent tuner that takes into account slight variations of each note and makes it quite easy to accurately tune the chanter. My only issue is that before, the app would crash occasionally when using a plug in tuning clip. With this current update, it always crashes every time I plug in my tuning clip. Can something be done to fix that please??
