Description

While we've received alot of great feedback about Banjo Companion, there were some complaints.
"In landscape mode the fretboard is backwards!", people complained.
"What about lefties?", several of you asked.
"How about European notation?"
"This isn't really a teaching app."

We've fixed a lot of these problems. The fretboard now turns the correct way on the iPad landscape. Lefty mode for Lefties. European and Japanese notations.
The "teaching app" part is more difficult. But we have come up with a couple of tools that we'd love you to try:
* Patterns - learn scales up and down the neck, and cool ways to play them. These are almost like song idea generators. Seriously, randomly switch through a few, and see if you start to hear a song.
* Favorites - create songbooks. Jot down interesting chords (or scales) you're trying to remember.
We've also simplified the pricing. The All Access Pass gives you everything. Ad free, all the skins and beat packs, all the alternate tunings. And in the new Patterns feature, you'll see some "advanced" patterns - these are also included with the All Access Pass. And just think - if we can sell enough of these passes, we can make a living at it, and spend all day thinking about how to make YOU a better Banjo player. It's like... seeing into the future, and being awed at how good a Banjo player you've become. In the future, Banjo Companion keeps getting better and better, and you use it, like, all the time. Future You seems really happy. And your future self looks at you through the time portal, and happily shouts "It's worth it! The All Access Pass is totally worth it!"
And like before, there are some other features worth mentioning:
- Huge lists of chords and scales, and a ton of alternate tunings
- Zoom mode. See everything bigger.
- On the neck, display notes, intervals, finger positions
- Metronome and drum beats. Accompany thyself. (Beats go great with Patterns, by the way!)
- Manually strum the chords (and now scales), and hear how it's supposed to sound
- Skins. Several flavorful colors to choose from
- Tuner pegs. Simple. Effective. Within the mathematical reaches of our programmer.
Thanks for checking us out! We would love to hear what you think of Banjo Companion, and things you need that would make you a better Banjo Player.

Banjo Companion Reviews

Really useful

This app has been really useful to me over the years I’ve had it. I paid for the full version which shows chords for a full range of tunings and I’ve been using that feature a lot, as I play in a number of different tunings that I’m not always very familiar with. Sure someone with a good grounding in music theory can figure the chords out themselves, but for someone like me, without that kind of training, it’s a great reference source.

apps emm?

ok i don’t know about this app but hope it is good. but i did have “banjo basics” 2 years ago having learnt the banjo in 1 year, i left it.....opened it up today for old time sake, a brilliant app, but after update the usual thing happened......directed to another app...then you pay... guess this is business but luckily i have learnt, some apps mean well but there is always money making in the forefront. happy banjo playing

Appalling

After spending sometime with this app I am unable to work out what it is even supposed to be used for. Learning scales and chords maybe? Then why are there no markers on the fretboard at 3rd, 5th etc frets? When I first opened the app I was forced to make all the in app purchases. I was unable to even quit the app until I had done so. At the moment the app is playing the scale of G major over and over non stop with no way of stopping it. I would not even risk downloading this app and opening it. A pretty expensive rip off.

Excellent support for Banjo players

Amazing

Works fine but...

It does everything it says it does, but the interface is frustrating. Dialling for chord names and types is laborious and fiddly. I'd much rather see a row of chromatic buttons etc in an easy chord finder. And standard A tuning (aEAC#E) is missing! I can transpose from standard G but I shouldn't have to, especially as someone's gone to all the trouble of compiling a huge number of esoteric tunings. So what about custom tunings? That would at least fix that problem. Or a capo? It's the best of its kind out there but that still doesn't make it great. Hope you're listening, developers, as a few tweaks would make this awesome!

Excellent

This app is brilliant as are the other uke, guitar, mandolin etc. I have played guitar for years! These are great apps!

Great

If you have a banjo and you want to learn chords then this is the perfect app. It is simple and easy to use. There are two reviews that are negative and I want to balance them out here. One says it wouldn't install properly - it worked fine and first time on my iPad. The second says they didn't know how to use it - if you have a banjo and want to know chords I honestly do not know how the devs could have made it any easier to use. Perhaps the reviewer thought this was a virtual banjo. I am learning old-time banjo and this app is really useful. Although the in app ads are unobtrusive I paid for the ad-free version within ten minutes of using the app it is that good.

Uninstalled it

Absolutely brilliant. I've just started learning the banjo and it is fantastic helpful, some song tabs would be nice though.
