BrickScan by BrickMonkey Reviews

Three star semi fun

It’s fun to use but the fact that it only gives you 5 scans a day if your using for free it’s not useful if you only get five scans

Overly greedy

The app now has a premium subscription, with most features locked behind a paywall. Do not download.

Terrible app. Sort reviews by Recent

Barely functional. Loses WiFi connection often. Only identifies parts correctly like 50% of the time at best. Definitely NOT worth paying actual $$$, especially since Google Lens and other brickscanning apps are more accurate and FREE. Not to mention the fact that the dev pulled a massive “bait and switch” by offering the app for free for months to let users train his “AI”, then once everyone did enough work for him to make his app functional, he slapped a paywall on it. As far as I’m concerned, it should be illegal to remove core functionality from an app YOU ALREADY OWN. Poor decision, Mr. developer. Such little respect for your user base :(

Used to be good

Never mind I just needed to update but I still hate what you did with it

Everything has to be premium

This app used to be amazing, used it everyday and helped me a lot on not only building minifigures and seeing the price but also to help me with bricks that I didn’t know what the set was from, I would had recommended this app to any Lego enjoyer like myself but unfortunately now there’s an unlimited amount of photos to take. 5 a day photos for 50 dollars a year for stuff that used to be free, I cannot say the amount of hate I have for this app now, every scan app has to have some sort of premium feature that takes features that anyone could use back then but then an update comes and you are no longer able to use that feature unless you give them ✨MONEY✨ As soon as this update has happened I’ve seen a recent change in reviews. Brick monkey if you don’t see these reviews you truly are blinded by greed like the rest of todays mobile apps, For anyone who doesn’t want to pay this absurd amount of money, you can try google lens for free..

The app only works maybe half the time and isn’t worth it the $55 a year subscription when it used to be free

Such a time saver and the best at what it does! WORTH IT!!

This app has saved my eyes from straining to find specific figures. I've been using this app since it first came out and it just keeps improving! VERY HAPPY to support it's continued development! It's a lot faster than any other limited method (like using google lens) and directly links to all major inventory databases (rebrickable, bricklink, etc). Most negative reviews don't understand the costs involved with using servers in a datacenter and the amount of bandwidth and cpu/gpu resources something like this requires. It's a great deal at it's yearly sub costs and the developer deserves to be compensated.

Price is way too high for normal users

I understand the need to make money. However it would have been nice if existing users would have been allowed more than 3 images per day. The existing users are the ones that used and provided feedback on this app in its beta form and are part of the success that it is today. It seems like 10x images per day for original users would be a better number and 3x for anyone new. This would allow the app to remain useful for individuals, however people using it as a tool to make money would still need to sign up for pro. Another idea would be to have free scans only return a limited amount of information that a casual user would want but not what a pro would need. For example, just removing the linking to bricklink might be enough to get most paid users to sign up.

This app was good, now need a subscription to search more than 5 times a day. Made me delete the app.

Solid app, mid monetizing choice

Gobln_ on

Overall, the app works great, recognizes bricks wells, is very quick, and is very helpful for reassembling minifigs (helped me remake over 150 out of a mess of parts). As of the recent monetization though, my opinion of it has been lowered. The main reason was behind the processing load and money to run it off a server, with the multi scan option taking up the majority of the processing power. Instead of taking down all options and limiting it to 5 images per day for free, it could’ve been limited to the solo scan for free users, and you could pay to access the multi scan. This would still make it accessible for people who would prefer it for free, lower neural networks loads, and still have a monetized option for the people who use it with more parts. I understand the reasoning behind the choice, but its not the best option.
