The creators of the Buddy App have combined a lot of what other dive log apps are missing to create what looks like a diver’s logistic needs for one central hub to do all things DIVE. Unfortunately it seems to fall short on effort as things are slowly rolled out and don’t necessarily perform well. A major faux pas and poor professional standard is their use of AI (e.g., ChatGPT) to write their “blog” articles OR their inability to come up with original content so they repost articles from other underwater blog sources. This makes the entire App seem unauthentic, ungenuine, and shows the lacks of effort or care in the product they deliver to the user. The Buddy Blog articles, while in substance may be truthful lack a targeted accuracy that is observable in the AI-generated text. Additionally, the money grab buddy locator “radar” option is useless. Why would I pay for that service when they advertise the “social aspect” of their “community” to do exactly that?! In my opinion, go all the way or cease the effort. The lack of users on the platform is also pitiful. Formerly the Buddy App and “social community” was alive and abound on social media, but that (much like the effort into this App) has fallen off. Too bad because the rooted ideas were well placed. Just poor execution and lack of effectiveness (effort).
The Buddy is a fantastic scuba diving companion app! The logbook functionality is crazy robust and allows you to put tons of details into each of your dive logs. Being able to add photos and videos to your logs helps keeps all your dive memories in one place. The ability to have a digital dive bag to keep track of all the gear you use and mark what gear you use on each dive is so cool. From an instructor and dive shop owner point of view the ability to push dive log verification to my students is awesome, and helps to teach them how to make good dive logs. The social aspect of the app makes it fun to keep up with our divers as they go on and explore the underwater world. It’s a great way to interact with other divers, and the articles that are posted are interesting and fun too. I recommend this app to everyone of my students and everyone that walks through the doors of our dive shop. If you are looking for the best dive log app with tons of other functions that you will use and enjoy; then look no further and enjoy your new Buddy!
This app combines a digital dive log and social media app with a means to digitally discover friends, dive locations and certification verification with a way to share dive pics and videos to your other social media sites! Fantastic!! Love this app. Just download it.
Whether you are a recreational diver or a dive pro, diving is about building a community and this app makes it easy to not only log dives but keep in contact with those you meet 😁
This dive log app shines with its user-friendly interface, easy navigation, and visually appealing design, making it a joy to use for logging your underwater journeys. Setting up is a breeze, thanks to a straightforward account creation process and unobtrusive email communications, which is always appreciated. However, while the app serves well for basic dive logging needs, it currently misses out on several advanced features that some divers might find essential. These include the ability to download data directly from your dive computer, support for various advanced diving types like technical, cave, and dives using double tanks or stage deco mixes, and the capability to export your data for external use. Additionally, divers associated with smaller certification organizations such as GUE or UTD might notice the orgs are missing from the cert cards section. Interestingly, the app allows for logging of technical depths up to 400ft and the use of trimix gas mixes, yet it falls short in accommodating gas volumes over 130 cubic feet or setting up a double tank configurations. Overall, this app is a fantastic choice for casual, recreational divers seeking a simple and engaging way to track and share their underwater adventures, complete with basic info and photos. Its social features hold promise, though the community around it is still growing. For divers delving into more advanced forms of diving, it's worth noting the app currently lacks some functionalities that might enhance their logging experience, such as direct data downloads from dive computers and support for advanced diving settings.
An amazing platform that is only getting better. Incredibly convenient and user friendly, without a doubt the best dive log interface I’ve seen as an instructor for the last 10 years. More features keep coming out and making it even more desirable such as group messaging and dive buddy meet ups! I love sharing my gear on my profile and validating customers dives with ease. Truly one of a kind and can’t wait to see how they continue to group evolve and expand!
Love the community and logging dives! Makes it easy and user friendly! Love seeing what my other dive buddies are up to and learning about gear and marine life from their posts!
I downloaded the app with hopes of logging my dives more accurately and having the ability to add my gear and accompanying photos. The app immediately began to crash and became unresponsive when trying to add dive locations, gear and other information. I had to close out multiple times. I am still unable to add anything. I am using an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Despite the positive reviews this app is worthless to me. There is no way to import dives from another app and no interface to import from a dive computer or Apple Watch.
