Calibre Companion (CC), recommended by calibre developers, is three applications in one:
- a superb device-based calibre library organiser
- a high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator
- a calibre content server and cloud provider client (Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive)
1) CC is a device-based calibre library organiser. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below you can:
- view a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.).
- sort and group books by their metadata.
- see book lists by cover or by list.
- mark books read and sync this information with calibre.
- launch your book reader application to read a book
2) CC can connect to calibre over WiFi and be detected by calibre as a device. Once connected, you use calibre to move books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to match the latest in your library.
3) CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Supports Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

How much does Calibre Companion cost?
Calibre Companion has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is €11.66.
Like the Calibre project on the PC it is a worthy reader. A pity is the subscription, what it does is unclear, storing books on a server? I’d rather pay once for an add free version.
Hope this will be available in the near future.
The project has always been good, even in the Palm days.
Subscription works not good
I noticed that the app that I installed today is not remembering the
apple ID, everytime when I start the app I have give the Apple ID and that is not the way we want to do this.
Another problem is when making an error in the Apple ID the first time It is no longer possible to restore the subscription and is also not possible to start the program. Everytime when starting it says: Cannot be restored and there it stops. No entry posible anymore. You have to reset the iPad en remove the app. After installing the same problem comes immetiatly, and it is not possible to use the app. I hope this will be corrected very soon.
Not worked out well...
It’s not clear what the subscription is for.... and it does not connect to BOX, which is my cloud service. The other functionality is fine if you use your own home content server, and I guess also if you use Microsoft or Dropbox cloud
Useless if you have a calibre content server
Horrible interface. Doesn't seem to do anything the old mobile site cannot do.
Works well, searching could be improved.
The app works as required. The search function could be improved as it now seem to be based on exact matches.
IOS11
Werkt nog steeds niet met deze update.
Fantastic
When you use Calibre , this is a must have!
Can't download all?
Add a download all button please for content server, it's on the android version. Otherwise, pretty good
Ads
Why am I forced to watch ads even though I paid for the app. Constantly crashes
garbage
I was looking for a Calibre Companion app and tried this. Apparently (and unintentionally) I “bought” a 1 year subscription at a cost of $14.99. I had the app for about 5 minutes and cancelled. But I was denied a refund, according to Apple, due to this vendor’s “policy”. I did not like the app, but the refusal to refund my 5 minutes of use, is egregious. In checking them out, I also discovered that their website is for sale. So it’s obvious that they are failing and keeping every penny they gather, honestly or not. Apple should not be dealing with this type of vendor.
