Calibre Companion (CC), recommended by calibre developers, is three applications in one:
- a superb device-based calibre library organiser
- a high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator
- a calibre content server and cloud provider client (Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive)
1) CC is a device-based calibre library organiser. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below you can:
- view a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.).
- sort and group books by their metadata.
- see book lists by cover or by list.
- mark books read and sync this information with calibre.
- launch your book reader application to read a book
2) CC can connect to calibre over WiFi and be detected by calibre as a device. Once connected, you use calibre to move books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to match the latest in your library.
3) CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Supports Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive.

How much does Calibre Companion cost?
Calibre Companion has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is $19.49.
I have had Calibre on my laptop for years and have recently installed Calibre Companion on my iPad. So easy to start the Calibre content server on my laptop and connect the iPad via Calibre Companion then download books for reading on that device. Love it!
Essential app
Apple makes it ridiculously difficult to transfer ebooks from Mac to iPad. If you use the wonderful Calibre on your Mac, then this app is an essential adjunct for your iPad. Worth every cent.
Can't download all?
Add a download all button please for content server, it's on the android version. Otherwise, pretty good
Ads
Why am I forced to watch ads even though I paid for the app. Constantly crashes
garbage
I was looking for a Calibre Companion app and tried this. Apparently (and unintentionally) I “bought” a 1 year subscription at a cost of $14.99. I had the app for about 5 minutes and cancelled. But I was denied a refund, according to Apple, due to this vendor’s “policy”. I did not like the app, but the refusal to refund my 5 minutes of use, is egregious. In checking them out, I also discovered that their website is for sale. So it’s obvious that they are failing and keeping every penny they gather, honestly or not. Apple should not be dealing with this type of vendor.
Excellent
Excellent calibre companion. Master it.
Useful
I regularly use this to move stories to VoiceDream so I can listen to them as audio. My complaint is that advertising has started showing up on the app. I’m willing to pay for the app but not to get advertising as well.
Used to be better
I purchased this App and now the developer decided to include Ads. Before it was useful for organizing my E-book library. Now it’s very distracting with all the annoying ads which I can’t get rid of despite having paid for this App, and this App crashes very frequently. If there were another alternative to sync books with Calibre on my desktop I would definitely have taken it.
Easy to Use and does its job
I use Calibre on my desktop and MacBook to organize ebooks. The content server method of transferring and consolidating documents works very well and it easy to get documents onto a device and use quickly.
Terrible app
I got this app to work once. Then never again. Apps like this and apple themselves are leading my frustration with electronics and are making me rediscover my love of paper
