Canals.UK is a useful companion for anyone who uses the canals; boating or walking!
Navigate the 2,000 miles of UK canals. The App shows locks, bridges, aqueducts, tunnels, mooring and facilities and much more, along our canal network.
The FREE version includes:
• All the UK canals mapped with locks, bridges and facilities.
• Shows: Mile markers, Boatyards, CRT Notices, Fish & Chips, Launderettes, Canal side Pubs, local convenience stores.
• A list of all canals in a useful linear diagram which will show you where you are on a specific canal and update your location if tracking is on.
• Canal & River Trust Notices of any navigation restrictions.
• Useful phone numbers and links to websites.
• My Boat - keep relevant details about your boat.
• Get estimated boat speed, location and sunrise/sunset times.
• Notifications
Upgrade ‘Go Pro’ with in-App purchase includes:
• Nearby: find useful points or interest that are near your current location
• Daily Boat Log to record any diary details to show you are a continuous boater!
• Create your own Points of Interest (POI) and plot them on the map e.g. your favourite mooring spots, where to pick blackberries or favourite pub.
• Canal Rings: shows the major canal rings that you can journey along.
• Route Planner: plan a canal route and get an estimate of how long it will take.
• Boat Tracker - track your boat position even when the App is not running (obviously the iPhone/iPad needs to be on).

Great for Planning
This is a very good app for planning journeys. The route planner is simple to use and with a little experience you can tune the speed / lock times such that you will get a very reasonable estimate of the route time. However, it is not as good as other apps for showing you progress along your route; it could do with a speed display, a more logical and relevant logging feature, and a better background map. Also, it does like to have the internet, not always available on UK canals! Despite all my comments, I will be using this app regularly before and during my canal trips.
Cannot get it to work!
Route planner drop down won’t drop down .Search bar won’t search.
No River Great Ouse navigation
Missing Ouse river navigation which I need the most. Update 22/09/2023: Just to clarify: Missing are River Great Ouse River from King's Lynn to Bedford and River Cam from Ely to Cambridge.
Review
Difficult, nay impossible, to change the destination from Fazely to the River Thames as I wanted to plan a route! Frustrating!

My go to app for quick routing calculations
We are a serial electric hybrid boat and, by choice, cruise at a slower speed than many boats. This app enables you to customise your speed so that you get an quick and more accurate estimate of how long a particular journey might take you. You need to “Go Pro” to do this but it’s money we’ll spent in my opinion.

I really like this App very easy to use still learning keep founding new things love TV signal founder it’s my first choice when looking for canal features now going to sit down and work on trip to Oxford thanks for a great App

I’m using this to get from Milton Keynes up to Scarisbrick. It’s been great, love all the functionality and recommended it to a number of others ….. only point I think could improve it would the ability for boaters to add notes ie if you find something helpful or know of a issue it would be handy, possibly with dates E.g canal ?? Bridge 27 obstruction under water 23/10/2023
