Jupyter notebooks, with scipy

Description

Jupyter notebooks are a powerful tool used in education and research. You can write small snippets of Python code and observe the result on screen, combine with paragraphs of text, using Markdown.
Carnets provides a complete, stand-alone, implementation of Jupyter notebooks. Everything runs on your device, using the embedded Python interpreter; you do not need an internet connection. Compared to the standard version (Carnets), this app adds several packages targeted for scientific computation and learning: scipy, sklearn, seaborn and coremltools. You can switch between standard notebooks and the more modern jupyterlab using the Settings app.
Of course, all the packages included with the standard app are present too: numpy, simply, matplotlib... To see the full list of installed packages, type "%pip list" in a code window. You can add more packages using "%pip install packageName", but only if they are pure Python.
You can share your notebooks with other apps and also open notebooks or directories managed by other apps.
Partial list of installed packages: astropy, babel, bokeh, cartopy, cryptography, cvxopt, Fiona, geopandas, geopy, gym, inequality, libpysal, lxml, mapclassify, matplotlib, networkx, nltk, numpy, openCV, pandas, parso, pillow, pyFFTW, pyproj, qutip, rasterio, regex, Rtree, scikit-learn, scipy, seaborn, segregation, shapely, soupsieve, spopt, statsmodels, sympy, wordcloud.

Originally 5* but something went wrong

This app is now buggy to the point of unusability for me. If I try to report a bug, I am directed to Twitter/X which I don’t have. So, what’s gone wrong? Firstly, I have an iPhone 8, but that’s no excuse for the app not working properly right now. The app just doesn’t handle smaller screens properly. This indicates that it’s not tested properly. The app can’t seem to figure out if I want the keyboard or beige screen, or to see the code. This results in me needing to code in a 1/2” space within the app. It is therefore pretty much unusable. If I try to select text for cut/paste, the selection goes offscreen. The typing is also the same, not wrapping properly. Also, saving the data gives errors. If I save the notebook, I can only save as untitled, then I have to go to files, rename, then go and find the notebook again to reopen. This is annoying. I’d have reported the above, but as said from the outset, I don’t have Twitter, Facebook or any of those social medias.

Great mobile tool for Python coding

Only been using this for a short time but it seems pretty good so far. Essentially this is a mobile version of Python Jupyter Notebooks. Other IDE’s are available, but Jupyter is easier to build code step by step and view the results (and errors) stage by stage. I managed to install the app, set up a new notebook, then write and run some code which I’d previously tried on Jupyter Notebooks and it ran identically. As part of that process, I needed to install a couple of packages and it was fairly easy to do that once I found out the process online. I’m not sure that the “sci” version is needed, but it saves some time if those libraries are already installed from the outset.

Perfect for data science on the go

This app is fantastic! It has everything you need to do some quick data science on the go. It is perfect for uni and high school students who are getting into data science and statistics. I hope they explain the libraries further, as well as maybe look into Jupiter Lab porting.

Continuous Bug fixes

Love this app however when updated to iOS 15 there were a few bugs, these have now all been fixed. Love the app, love the continued support.

Excellent.

I’ve been looking for a way to do basic mathematical and scientific work on my iPad for years. This works perfectly provided you’re not relying on any cython packages or similar (as far as I can tell, known limitation).
