Awesome game that stays about as true to history as a mobile game can! I played on my iPad and the game is very in depth, yet very accessible and easy to play. The AI is very good and unforgiving making solo play a rewarding challenge. I love the time the developer has taken to make the scenarios historically representative. On the coral sea scenario, the outcome of my match was EXACTLY the same as what historically occurred. Seaplanes and submarines are worthwhile add ons to the game. Looking forward to future content
While I love the mechanics of this game, it seems virtually impossible to win playing as the US. The US aircraft squadrons are seriously under strength, compared to their historical counterparts. For example, for the Midway scenario, each US carrier has only 20 planes. At the actual battle, each carrier had at least 77 planes. The game scenario OOB for the Midway squadrons is 6 F2As, 2 F2Fs, 5 SBDs, 4 SB2Us, 2 TBFs, 1 B-26, and 5 B-17s. The actual strength of the squadrons at Midway was 21 F2As, 7 F4Fs, 19 SBDs, 17 SB2Us, 6 TBFs, 4 B-26s, 17 B-17s, and 31 PBYs. The game scenario has no PBYs, depriving the US of long range search capability.
Let’s do it!! Would love to face off Nagumo against Somerville’s eastern fleet. Could probably manage two extras from the same map - Ryujo’s raid and then Operation C. Love this game and the “what if’s” you add to each scenario. We’ve come a long way from After Pearl on Atari!
I love this game and everything about it, but I was wondering if they could add a two player mode on one device. Thank you and great game! Yes kind of like hot seat.
Always enjoyed playing old hex and counter war games. This is great addition to the old school. Bought all the extra scenarios, money well spent.
Love it!
Spot him before he spots you. Classic rule of thumb in carrier warfare. This game has a steep learning curve, especially the search process…but once you get it, the system is fairly easy.
This is an accessible old school war game with a good mid level of strategy. It really captures the tension and drama of these battles as you balance the risk / reward of different approaches. For me this is a bargain at the price and the IAPS are worth the additional investment. Unlike a lot of the “attention economy” stuff out there today, it also makes great use of your time.
I grew up playing the classic hex/counter games covering the Pacific War like “Carrier” from VG and am really impressed with this game. I’ve had it for a while and the Developer continues making improvements, adding new content/scenarios/options and listening to player feedback. 5-stars!
