The second best sounding piano app in the App Store (after "Colossus Piano")! Convince yourself by watching and listening to the demo video on our product website!
This app supports Bluetooth LE MIDI, as well as Audio Unit, Audiobus, Apple's "Inter-App Audio" System and the "JACK Audio Connection Kit" for audio & MIDI connections from/to other audio apps!
CMP Grand Piano is a high quality virtual piano sound module for your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. It is designed for professional usage on stage by connecting an external MIDI keyboard to the iPad / iPhone / iPod touch by using the Apple USB camera adapter or another adapter supported by Apple.¹ In comparison to "Colossus Piano" this app especially has a lower resource consumption and runs thus also on much older devices.
CMP Grand Piano provides a very realistic sound by using a very large collection of audio samples of more than 1.7 GB (uncompressed) in size. Various articulations of each key of a real piano were sampled in full length and high quality to assemble this realistic sound. Real-time disk streaming is utilized to playback the respective audio samples with very low latency.
Sound Features:
- Two high quality base sounds ("Grand Piano" and "Jazz Piano") with more than 1.7 GB in size.
- Two additional sounds available as in-app purchase ("Concert Grand" and "Upright Pianino") with additional 1.6 GB and 1.1 GB respectively in size.
- Polyphony up to several hundred voices.²
- Configurable audio latency down to 1ms.
- Integrated effects with 17 presets.
- MIDI velocity response curve editor to fine tune the feeling of your MIDI keyboard, save them as presets if you use more than one keyboard.
- App can keep running in the background, so you can play piano while e.g. using Safari or another app to display scores or surfing the Internet.
- Hermode Tuning: Makes the sound more brilliant by controlling the pitch of the notes in multivoiced music to better frequency ratios than with fixed tuning. This dynamic tuning imitates the tuning behavior of well educated musicians with string and wind instruments and of singers in professional choirs.
- Provides Audio Unit v3 plugin version of this app, which allows it to be used as virtual instrument directly within third-party multi-track DAW apps (iOS 9.3 and higher).
- Audiobus support.
- Supports Apple's "Inter-App Audio" system for audio & MIDI streaming between other apps.
- Supports "JACK Audio Connection Kit" for audio & MIDI streaming between other apps (up to iOS 6.1.3).
MIDI Player / Recorder:
- Record, save and load your songs in standard MIDI file format.
- Export and share your song as MIDI file or as audio (.wav, .m4a) file.
- Unlimited amount of tracks.
- Unlimited recording and playback length.
- Open MIDI (.mid) files directly from other apps (i.e. from Safari, Mail).
- Load your favorite songs as MIDI files from the Internet, and watch at the virtual keyboard how to play it.
- Metronome.
- Use the "Tempo Zoom" dial knob to i.e. slow down playback at any time and learn your favorite songs more easily.

CMP Grand Piano FAQ
Is CMP Grand Piano free?
CMP Grand Piano is not free (it costs 14.99), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is CMP Grand Piano legit?
✅ The CMP Grand Piano app appears to be high-quality and legitimate. Users are very satisfied.
So there are a few pianos and electric pianos on iOS/iPadOS, and I have some of them. Not the most expensive out there, but I have listened to some renditions on the most expensive. On first hearing this CMP piano downloaded, it seemed unremarkable. However, adding the necessary reverb and the tiniest sliver of echo/delay really livened it up. I always have to add some of Apple’s GarageBand initial compressor, because it has a slider to amp-up the dB on it, on most Audio Units.
The standard limiter in your DAW, then at the end of the FX chain, the EQ to add ‘air’ and remove the lowest rumble of sub-60Hz, and it’s really very good.
Right at the beginning of course, there’s the ability to alter the velocity curve in the app, which helps because my 61-key MIDI controller/keyboard is average in that department.
These are my ways of setting-up this pianoforte to succeed. Once you have this sort of essential respect given to the overall tone and ambience your instrument is playing in, it is amazing how much the underlying sound qualities come through.
I moved on to setting up a preset in ‘mixbox cs’ to fulfil some of the FX needs, but GB’s standard track compressor and EQ, leave you just needing reverb. The main reason for using an all-in-one FX is not the sound quality but because a preset can be saved, allowing multiple drop-ins in other tracks easily accomplished, at precisely the same settings ie you can try several pianos, confident the playing-field is level.
But that’s all done once, and except for shortening the reverb ‘tail’ if playing faster, or similar tweaks to accommodate particular playing, it’s set then. How CMP piano comes across now, is that it really is able to deliver nuances of playing, true pianoforte, that I cannot normally get out of my keyboard. My experience tells me two things usually create this result: a fast response of the app to the MIDI incoming data; and somehow the sounds are gradated to actually have the expressiveness there, waiting to be brought out.
That’s why it’s my favourite. It’s warmer, and more nuanced, and sounds ‘smoother’ somehow, is my impression overall. But most of all it actually does pianissimo and fortissimo, making it five stars.
Fantastic
The white grand piano is fantastic, its just so realistic, even the velocity feels great, I'm stil loving iSymphonic too 🤗
Yes, it’s that good!
It is a hefty app, memory-wise, but that’s what you need for real quality. This piano sounds fantastic - even on my tinny keyboard speakers, but with the headphones plugged in it is simply stunning. Like the Korg Ivory you can adjust the velocity settings and this really worked for this piano app making it really sing. The sustain has a lovely ring to it. I’m not a big fan of some of the more ‘out there’ reverb selections, but the ‘hall’ varieties work really well to add extra timbre.
And that’s what this app is all about - timbre. I have both the Korg Ivory and the Beathawk Grand. Both sound a little ‘muddier’ than this one. You can brighten the Ivory. Unfortunately you can’t do much with the Beathawk unless you channel it through AUM and add some EQ and a decent reverb.
For the money, this grand piano app has the edge for me.
Good God, this is amazing
The wonderful sound of this piano leaves me speechless. Worth every pound.
Auv3
I do like the sounds on this Piano but It keeps crashing when using As a auv3 in cubasis you have to keep reloading it in It usually happens when you select Grand piano. But it can happen any time really ...Can you please fix this thank you
Brilliant
Fantastic sampling. Better than all of module's pianos in case you are wondering
By far the best iOS piano
I don't non ally write reviews but this app genuinely deserves recognition. As a professional musician, I've tried all the rest - GarageBand, Sampletank, iGrand etc - and this one blows them all away. The sound is superb but it's sheer playability and responsiveness is sublime. I have it on both an iPad Air and an iPhone 6 and it's great to know I have my piano with me wherever I go... Just need the camera connection kit and a USB MIDI lead and a nice 88 note weighted controller. I love this app! Please don't worry that the interface may not be as 'pretty' as other apps but this wins hands down on sound and response which is kind of the point of its purpose! For this money it's an absolute bargain too. You don't need a separate sound module anymore.
The best
No doubt about it, this is the best, most realistic piano on the App Store. Superb!!
CMP Piano
Absolutely blown away by the quality of these Pianos & the 2 more I purchased , far better samples than any stand alone high end Digital Piano I've tried ! Slight downside , it does not seem to have acoustic resonance available when using sustain pedal as do the aforementioned high end DPs & therefore Only reason not to award 5 stars. Be aware that this App is a Monster for memory. I purchased all 4 Pianos & it has used 4.6 gig !! & use an iPad 2/ iPhone 4S or later or Lack of Polyphony is a problem,( Also note it does'nt work on an iPhone using the Camera kit !! You have to buy an aftermarket Midi interface & they don't tell you that !!) I thought the Grand Piano in Garage band was good but this is on a different Planet , Fantastic !!!
