CookUnity FAQ
Is CookUnity free?
Yes, CookUnity is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is CookUnity legit?
⚠️ The CookUnity app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
The app is not transparent about charging policy. I was automatically charged over $200 on the following week after my first trial without express consent, and didn’t even got to choose the meals. The customer service has refused to cancel the order, even though I immediately contacted the team after being charged. It was very disappointing to realize the business is adopting misleading ways to force customer retention. On top of that, the “cancel my subscription” button is not where your FAQs section points to, making it even more difficult for any user to sign off.
glitchy and slow
great looking app with an attractive interface but it’s sooo slow and glitchy! the logo will spin and spin and i have to keep swiping out and trying again to get it to move. it crashes when i’m trying to confirm my order so i’ve started screenshotting my selections for when (not if) this happens. i often have to tap buttons a couple times before the action is completed. the meal filtering is also not great but i’m not sure if this is just on the app or on the website as well.
Terrible app
Such a great meal delivery service but the app is awful. Your meals for the current week doesn’t appear. The app takes forever to load a screen. If you’re ordering for a week and choose your meals, if you leave the screen all your chosen items disappear.
No food delivery + no customer support = no good
When it’s good, it’s good. When it’s bad, Cook Unity is terrible. I’ve been using this service for months without any issues until this week when I had placed a larger than usual order bc it’s the start of summer break. I hate when there is no phone number to call and speak to someone and instead I have to spend an hour on the app’s chat (ask me for the screenshots). So while Giro is communicating with the team in charge of screwing up my order, he’s not telling me what solution or compensation CU can provide. Instead, I’m informed after the fact that my family won’t be receiving any meals this week, the team can’t even offer a delivery on a later date, but that my money is being credited for future orders. This defeats the entire purpose of having a meal service! 1) Food waste due to wherever my order ended up 2) Time wasted on an unsatisfactory resolution 3) Added stress to the customer who now has to scramble to meal plan
Again - When it’s good, it’s good. When it’s bad, Cook Unity is terrible
Great Selection
Been using for 4 years.. feels like an almost unlimited menu as I like to try different foods.
Please fix app bug where my reviewed meals for the week don’t save the ratings. 5 stars if the app reviews are cleaned up
The company and service is great, app not so much
While I love being able to order on an app to make things easier, the app frequently crashes or does not load. Dishes constantly are missing their image where it says “image coming soon” over a gray background even though the specific dish normally has an image and is not new (clearly a glitch). Also, there’s no easy way to view the menu or select favorites outside of when you’re actually ordering for a specific upcoming week. I’d like to be able to go and view the whole menu from past weeks (or even just the dishes I specifically ordered) and select favorites from it, but it won’t let me view the past menus. You can only view the menu if you’re ordering for a specific UPCOMING week. If I’ve already placed my order for an upcoming week, I can only view the menu if I pretend like I’m modifying the existing order (which I don’t want to do because items frequently sell out and I don’t want to accidentally mess up my orders and not get what I want. It’d be easy to accidentally uncheck a menu item on an order while quickly scrolling). If I click on “history” at the bottom of the app, it only shows receipts and stuff. The receipts are just a list of what you ordered, you can’t click on any dish in particular to view it or favorite it. If I click “review”, it’ll show the dishes on past orders to review them, but it does not show their normal product page where you can select the dish as a favorite. The little heart icon is missing from the dishes on the review page, which is seemingly the only page you can view past dishes you’ve ordered outside of when you’re ordering for an upcoming week. I could go on and on. I’m by no means a boomer with trouble working an app. I’m young and tech savvy, yet this app drives me crazy and is useless outside of simply placing your orders weekly (when it’s not crashing or taking several minutes to load).
Food good, occasional delivery issues
Food is good, love the choices by a variety of criteria (diet, cusine, speciality). But food sometimes arrives inadequately chillled. Customer service tells me they’re working the problem. No resolution yet, after 2 months.
App is broken
Deletes items from your cart and substitutes with meals you’d never willingly order. The service is broken and they should be offering refunds.
App could use improvement; food pretty good
When you check out, it should detail how much you’ll be charged but it doesn’t. My order was eligible for a promotional discount but for some reason it only showed how much I was saving on the order and not the total amount. I thought it would have at least been in the email receipt they sent but nope. Feels devious.
The app should also be able to show you the details of your upcoming delivery in the “orders” tab but it doesn’t, only past deliveries.
Food has been good 80% of the time so would order again, but they should improve their app.
Incredibly scummy, be warned
Joined the service, enjoyed the food the first few weeks. But if you do not select food, in my case due to dealing with lawyers after the loss of a family member, they will automatically select things you’ve never eaten and that go against listed preferences. They will charge you anyway, and even if you catch it and contact them immediately they will not offer to change the order or cancel it.
My guess is that they need to remove excess stock so they force it on people who are too busy to order. In any event, this has happened to me twice and while I was able to get a refund the second time through PayPal I am cancelling my service and will not be back.
