Cosmos Reviews

No ads, too much AI art

m.llee on

United States

A genuinely aesthetically pleasing app with no ads as far as i can tell which already makes it ten times better than pinterest. However, i spent only five mins on the app before being overwhelmed by the amount of AI art- WAY worse than on pinterest. So solid choice if you want pretty pictures i guess but if you want any kind of actual, non-AI generated art THIS IS NOT A SAFE PLACE.

Good! VSCO meets Pinterest

Lovely app with potential! I am migrating my photos from Pinterest to back them up and although Cosmos isn’t as seamless and enjoyable (yet) as Pinterest, it is a great alternative. However, I changed my 5 stars to 3 because saves are limited to a certain amount, which is a pretty easy threshold to surpass. This will be a lengthy review including features unique to Cosmos, features I love, improvements, and features to add. I know it is very long but I wanted to be as informative and helpful as possible. Features unique to Cosmos: (1) the Canvas feature; I can see my “elements” (photos) in a “cluster” (board), zoom out, also click on an individual photo to go to the source. (2) I can see/access the cluster an individual saved the image to through “connections”. (3) Search by color; self-explanatory :) Intuitive features I love: (1) the dashboard at the bottom; the home, search, create, activity, and profile are ideally placed. (2) long-pressing a photo; this allows me to reorder, save to another cluster, and delete with ease. And lastly… Some improvements: (1) Lag; app starts to lag when dragging an element to reorder it inside of the cluster once you move past the end of the page. (2) Algorithm; algorithm doesn’t seem to take into account ALL of the elements you have saved but rather just the last few (which usually is the same set of things e.g. ocean photos, flowers) which is frustrating. (3) Limited saves on Free Plan; this would force me to get Premium. I am happy to pay to support the creators and keep Cosmos add-free, HOWEVER the only option is Premium ($72/year) which is an absurd and unjustifiable amount. Features to add: (1) Sub-section within a Cluster; I absolutely loved using this feature in Pinterest to streamline my space/time. (2) Light-mode; there are no mode options as the “default” is technically the app itself. I would love a light-mode to brighten it up! (3) Tiered pricing; In addition to established creatives, a lot of young users are amongst the target audience. We do not have disposable income so tiered pricing could ultimately benefit Cosmos. I’m on version 1.32.2 (1347)

Boots into black screen. Cant enable nsfw content without a computer. Just let me use a mobile browser!

Great app, hardly ever works

mthfu on

Like the title says. Even when the app actually runs, parts of it still won’t work. When I click on my profile and try to view any of my boards, for example, the app will completely freeze. Then, I’ll exit and chances are I won’t be able to get back on. 8 of 10 times I’ve clicked on the app, nothing loads and I’m faced with a blank screen. It’s pretty unfortunate because the app itself is just like Pinterest without all the ads. Too bad it’s unusable.

Very promising!

Hey there! I’m an artist who’s frustrated with Pinterest and other apps becoming unusable nowadays. I just now discovered this app, and dare I say, it’s quite nice! The algorithm could use some work, but I believe that comes with an app like this being rather new. The UI is overall quite pleasing so far, despite my one major issue…it’s not optimized for tablets. It’s fine on a mobile phone, but I and many other artists use a tablet for a more readable size and convenient access to references used during the creative process. For now, the awkward aspect ratio will have to do, haha Despite the aforementioned hiccups, it’s a very promising app. It’s not rampant with AI and ads like Pinterest is, and I hope it stays that way. But for future use, please, for the love, incorporate a filter for AI content if it’s possible, though. Thank you!

Close To Perfect

A wonderful cross between Tumblr & Pinterest. The content feels like it is a much higher quality than a lot of other sites. And it’s clearly artistically driven. If you have an itch for aesthetics, this will scratch it! I have very few gripes. However, the algorithm needs work. I’m really tired of seeing the same images over and over on my “For You” tab. I think it’s supposed to change the more you connect elements to clusters and upload images, but it doesn’t do a great job of that. My other issue is the search feature, I’d love to be able to sort by new. Only well connected elements get seen, which is bad for discoverability. Seeing the same posts over and over again makes me less likely to return to Cosmos regularly and doesn’t drive creativity. It kind of feels like a popularity contest, despite that being opposite of the point.

Probably not recommended

one suggestion

Farah Mili on

i like that the app has sources for its images and i hope they can find the info for all of them. one thing i would also love to see that's preventing me from fully switching over is cluster widgets, since the only widget option right now is random featured posts.
