"Updated for latest iOS." Thank you! 😭🥳
If you don't own this game, you hate games. It's that simple. Update - THANK YOU CAVE for the update!
I love Cave's work, and they've been porting their amazing bullet hell shooters to iOS for a while now with amazing results. This one is a little different, as it was originally developed not for arcades, but for Windows Phone. Now it's been ported to iOS and I can only guess a different team was behind it, as the quality is noticeably lower than usual. The first thing I noticed was the frame rate - Cave games always run at a super slick 60 frames per second, but this, even on an iPhone 5, can only manage 30fps. On an iPhone 4, you're looking at 20fps. It's not doing any more than any other Cave game visually, so this is odd. Next the visual style is somewhat poorly chosen. It's supposed to be a virtual reality simulator type thing, which translates to everything being wireframe or made of giant pixels. It's not really a good look. The exception are enemy bullets, which are absolutely ENORMOUS. To play it's also nothing special, almost like a game trying to emulate Cave, rather than the real thing. So much as I love all of Cave's other work, this is sadly a disappointment.
I bought this hoping for some classic shooter action but was very disappointed to see forced auto fire (no option to switch to manual fire). My disappointment was furthered by the stages and enemies; they look awful. Aside from your ship, all the artwork is made up of super low-res, dot-matrix, two color sprites. Basically just differently shaped boxes made up of dots. I thought it might just be a first level thing, but sadly not. The whole game is the same. Terrible. I am seriously regretting paying £8 for this game and will be requesting a refund post-haste. I would not recommend this game unless the price drops down to about £2.
Class as always from Cave. It's all silky smooth, the controls are swift and effortless and bullet patterns are frantic but so much fun both of which no one else seems to be able to reproduce in a shmup as often as Cave do. It's a slightly different take on its past catalogue of iOS releases rather than a direct arcade/360 port this is purely made from the ground up for portable bullet hell, it plays like a Dodonpachi remix with a pixel graphical style love it. Unfortunately my scores have just been wiped from the leaderboards, hopefully a minor blip. Still a must buy don't waste your time looking at the reviews splash the cash.
Great fun from the masters of bullet hell. Can we have the black label version of Dai Ou Jou please?
Cave are the master of shooters and this original title is another excellent Shmup which deserves to be on every iDevice. Graphics are HD retina quality and the game is as tough as ever. DDPR is my favourite iOS title, and this is right up there for me. Ships to unlock, loads of stages with scoring challenges for each level. Early adopter sale ends soon. Must have for any Shmup fan
Not so much a new Dodonpachi as a beautiful abstract homage to Cave bullet hell. Love it.
Looks stunning, and plays like a dream. My favourite developer do it again. Long live Cave!
