Ecowitt

No complaints. Setup was almost painless. Far easier than expected.

Like many other reviewers, I’m using this app for the GW1100 gateway and soil moisture sensors. Whatever issues people were having seem to have been fixed, because I was able to get the gateway installed on my WiFi network using the app on my phone with no issues. I’ve heard great things about this brand and I’m excited to start expanding my collection of Ecowitt sensors.

First things first - the product works great. So does the app - but there's a twist. I'm using the GW1100 gateway with moisture sensors. However, it seems that a lot of people myself included aren't able to pair the gateway with the app directly. You have to go the longer route and manually add it via embedded webpage. This is fine, it works, BUT, a huge part of having a good product is having a user friendly onboarding process. The app is just as important as the product in order for it to function. I feel like people who aren't as technically inclined might have trouble manually adding the gateway vs if the app were able to add it directly. There must be some sort of fix that can solve this. I would love to give the app a 5 star review, but this 1 flaw leaves a bad first impression. Anyway - looking forward to collecting valuable data! Again, great product and solid quality. The app needs TLC regarding first time setup. I really hope to see developers crank down on the bugs and UX.

The worst app ever

the sensors work well. the app is an abomination. it works sometimes. now its asking for new password. haven’t been able to log in over a week. worthless non information stupid people.

I’m not interested in granting the app access to my location. But the app refuses to do ANYTHING unless it has permission to my location. So I briefly granted it access, got the ecowitt gateway onto my WiFi, then I deleted the app. There is really very little reason to use this app other than the first time you provision the ecowitt gateway.

This app is so well done that it is a sad embarrassment to Weather Underground. The EcoWitt charts are exceptionally good and work the way I’d want them to work. It fetches the data quickly. The map is decent quality. It is flexible in terms of how it presents its data. It is reliable.

App stopped working after 5 days. Won’t let you log in or contact support. Other apps work so it’s not the equipment. Please fix app!

Installed the app and got hung up in setting up moisture sensors. Deleted the app and tried to log back in, and now the app will not work. Spins for a sec but does not login, will not send captcha to reset pw. I assume the api may be down because its totally useless now. Cant even use the support on the app had to email the us support email. Emailed support for help, hopefully they will respond in less than a couple days.

This version broke the graphing function. Now a pop up window overlays the graph. And you have to cancel or confirm to get it off the screen. 😩
