Epilepsy Journal is an app which allows you to quickly document daily variables concerning your epilepsy, such as seizure triggers, types etc. The information you provide is organized into easy to read graphs which allow for quick visualization of your individual epilepsy trends and patterns overtime. This app can serve as a valuable communication aid, by allowing you to generate a straightforward and professional report which can be shared with your physicians.
In general, we hope that this App will allow you to:
1) track epilepsy trends and patterns over time
2) objectively determine effectiveness of your epilepsy treatments
3) improve success of doctors appointments
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder which affects 1 in 26 people worldwide. It can have a relapsing, remitting, and unpredictable course. Treatment of epilepsy can be frustrating, and has been accurately referred to as being similar to the popular “whack a mole” game. Whether your epilepsy is mild or severe, refractory or controlled, it is critical to objectively and consistently monitor certain factors such as number of seizures, seizure triggers, AED drug or ketone levels, and other vital information. Keeping a detailed epilepsy journal will allow you to quickly notice any changes to your epilepsy, as well as provide you with impartial evidence as to whether your epilepsy treatment is truly effective or losing effectiveness over time.

Our Story/ Mission:
Our daughter Olivia is our inspiration for this app. Olivia has a refractory and severe epilepsy which began at age 1. Once Olivia´s epilepsy started we were advised by our physicians to keep a written epilepsy journal, in order to track trends and treatment response overtime. Although the journal was helpful in allowing us to objectively monitor the effectiveness of her epilepsy treatments, it was very time consuming and tended to be disorganized; As well, the hundreds of pages of notes did not help us when it became most critical to quickly and accurately summarize months worth of seizure history, (for example during emergency hospital visits or follow up appointments). During our experience navigating the neurology health care system, we found accurate and effective communication to be a key factor in successfully working with doctors and achieving ideal seizure control.
We created this app as a free and simple way to monitor your epilepsy; track trends and patterns, objectively determine effectiveness of seizure treatment overtime, and improve success of doctors appointments.
Since epilepsy contains dozens of ever changing variables, we decided to organize data into simple visuals which demonstrate seizure trends and patterns over a time span of months to years.
Our epilepsy journal allows you to quickly document all the important variables concerning your epilepsy, and to generate a simple and easy to read report to print out or email your doctors.
We hope that this app enables you to grasp a better understanding of your own individual epilepsy, and that it empowers you as an effective communicator and advocate within your epilepsy health care team.

Thank you for creating this app. Now my automatic response when a seizure starts is to reach for my phone and hit the big seizure button. This helps warns people around me what is happening as I cannot talk until it finishes. I have the majority of them tracked since 2019 and a picture of my triggers - thank you!
Invaluable for my epilepsy management
I’ve had epilepsy for 6 years following a brain injury and initially tried several apps to track my seizures - this is undoubtedly the best by far. I had a craniotomy four weeks ago for my epilepsy and the data I was able to extract from this app aided my neurosurgeons and epilepsy team to make decisions for my care. I can’t thank those behind the scenes enough.
A user
I love this app and I have tried many others. I can put in my own triggers, activities, medications, fit types and notes like the last time I took paracetamol which helps keep track when my memory is affected. It helps me record fits post ictal because I’ve tailored it. It uploads info across my ios devices. I produce reports for my epilepsy specialists which are accurate and they are impressed too.
Amazing app
Genuinely so amazing! This app has helped me recognise certain trends in my seizures and when they happen that I didn’t notice on the paper records that I kept! THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT MADE THIS APP POSSIBLE 💜
Almost
A decent effort. Good design for comparative data... however...
I’m desperately looking for something like this with Apple Watch compatibility, so I don’t have to have my phone with me all the time and I can integrate things a little better. I like the seizure recording method but it’s a little annoying that records can’t be amended after the fact, which would be important for a watch app (it likely wouldn’t be that precise on its own).
Great app
This was a great app at first however after amending meds and changing the reminders the app is still reminding me to take the old meds. This is clearly a bug. It is also sending me reminders for future doses for dates that have not passed yet.
Great App!
I suffer with multiple seizures a week so having this app is so handy to keep track of when I’m having them. The only downside to the app is that I try to input medications that I’m on and the app shuts down completely. Other than that problem it’s great!
Poor functionality
I downloaded the app to track new different seizures I think my son is experiencing. This makes it important for me to be able to write notes in the seizure log.
The app wouldn’t allow the page to scroll down so I could actually see the input boxes above the screen keyboard, I couldn’t even copy into it. This made the app useless to me and so I had to delete.
My favorite… but could use some fixed
This is still my favorite app to use for tracking my seizures throughout my day. I love it’s simple interface, the graphs and data provided, and the customizable seizure options!
Features to consider:
I would LOVE if the timer didn’t stop counting when my screen goes dark (I can’t keep track of my phone screen during seizure).
I would also LOVE a widget for Apple, so that opening and tracking a seizure can happen with one tap.
Good but needs 3 things
Like this app a lot to monitor my son’s seizures, but I wish I could figure out how to add this to his Apple Watch! I also would like to be able to go back into the day of seizures that have already been recorded without having to go into the calendar. Finally, I wish it would be able to alert me on my phone app each time he enters a seizure from his phone.
