Garmin VIRB

Phone connected to satnav fine, VIRB app does nothing and does not recognise the connection. Useless app if it doesn't work!

Unable to connect my Garmin VIRB XE to my iPhone 8 Plus iOS 15.4.1 using mobile Wi-Fi. I am able to connect if I use my home Wi-Fi. I haven’t used the camera to connect to my iphone since September 2021 when It worked okay on mobile mode. I normally use the camera on trips away from home and find I’m now unable to download and edit video’s as Wi-Fi is not always available. Would have been 5 stars until now.

Hi I am using a Garmin ultra 30 camera and the device itself is pretty good. It has a small touchscreen on the rear but when I mount it in my car on the rear screen I can’t see the touchscreen so I need to link it to my phone on my tablet. Firstly the app defaults to the VIRB 360 even though I’ve used the Ultra 30 connection instructions and I don’t seem to be able to change this. Surely you should be able to specify the device type. The few times I’ve managed to get it to connect it takes 10 seconds to refresh the screen and is unbearably slow for video, better for photos but I never use this for photos and I am sure few do. If the phone goes into standby I lose the connection and have to restart the app. The WiFi connection is really poor. I can’t view the videos on my phone as I need to live my life and the time it takes to transfer them is crazy. It’s a HUGE disappointment for a company like Garmin to even release this flaky poor app. It’s a go pro for me next time. The camera is good, but no better than many others, it’s the software that really adds the value. Come on Garmin...

I have a 66W dashcam that is listed as one of the devices using this app but it does absolutely nothing but wasting time

Abandoned using this as it’s a bit of a faff to connect and slow to download. Only really useful if you need a video while on the road. Something nice would be to delete all parked videos. Or even just delete all videos entirely. This would be nice because parking mode has a clear issue in that it fills the card and does not delete them as it does other videos. Therefore you end up with a card full of parking videos and no space to driving/accident videos.

Thus rendering a £500 camera useless.

Far too slow. Takes hours to transfer data & you can’t even run it in the background. Next to useless.

I won’t (and wouldn’t have the space anyway) to write about the issues I’ve had with this “app”. Purchased the virb 360 which (prior to the latest shambles of a firmware update, which has now locked my camera) and the camera shows as “sleeping” and so press “wake camera” ........ which doesn’t wake it. So you have to restart camera, which means reconnecting to camera WiFi, reconnecting camera and guess what.......... “wake camera”........ camera not responding, please restart camera......... CAN YOU SEE WHERE IM GOING WITH THIS!!!!! £650 for a camera from one of the worlds largest companies and they can’t even get it to connect!!!! Ridiculous. BUY A GOPRO. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

The first two videos transferred to iPhone after that constantly dropping connection with 3 minutes remaining. So tried with the iPad it drops again with minutes remaining. Never have this issue with gopro. Changed WiFi settings so virb connected to router, much better way to transfer from camera. New issue today. Will now only record 3minute 10 seconds of a 25 minute clip. So annoying
