Golf Rival

A fun game especially in the beginning, but it becomes pay-to-win really fast. You need the fancier clubs and golf balls or you have no chance. It’s almost impossible to get any of them by playing so you just have to pay up. Which I won’t do.

It is lagging

The actual golf mechanics feel good. Occasionally things happen that defy all logic and putting is way too easy but most of the time it works pretty well. Honestly it might be the best feeling mobile golf game I’ve played which is probably why I find everything else about this game so frustrating. The fact that it’s only PvP kills the fun a lot of the time. I’d love to be able to play a few holes and get an accumulative score, you know, golf, but instead the only option is to play one hole at a time against a human opponent. The player with the best clubs almost always wins. If you are even one stroke behind your opponent you don’t even get to finish playing the hole. Draws are incredibly common and in the case of a draw the winner is determined by a single shot closest to pin contest which again, favors whoever has the better driver. Do you like playing a par 5 perfectly, getting an eagle and then losing on a shoot out because your opponent has a better driver? Probably about 70-80% of matches are decided by a shoot out and even when I win it’s an incredibly cheap and unsatisfying way to win. Courses have no clearly defined borders and what counts as “out of bounds” is wildly inconsistent from hole to hole. On one you may be able to just shoot miles off the fairway for some really cheap “shortcuts” while on others bouncing a few feet off the path counts as out of bounds. It would be one thing if the game told you where the boundary is but it doesn’t. Things that clearly look like they should out are in and others that look clearly in are out. I Another absolutely terrible thing about the course design are holes designed specifically for certain clubs. There are some holes with “shortcuts” that will only work if you have a specific club with specific attributes, upgraded to a higher level of course. If you don’t have those clubs or haven’t upgraded it enough times you don’t stand a chance against somebody who has. These last two points are really sad because there are actually some really well designed holes that present good risk vs reward shots. It’s too bad that there are so many where you can just hack your way through the rough and still make birdie or even eagle.

They made putting ridiculously easy, I have never seen anyone miss a putt, not even once. So once you are on the green you are in, which leads to a draw contest with Closest to the pin. For this contest they choose the longest holes so it will be all about the club, so the one who paid with $$ always wins.. Otherwise it is an enjoyable game but they ought to make it more difficult so it is more about skill and timing and less about the one who has the longest hitting clubs.

winner is usually the one with best clubs. Not the best player... and to get good clubs you need real money.

Fun!

The game is fun, but you have to do the same courses again and again and again. The graphic is quite old school and the courses quite often do not make any sense. Would be nicer playing experience if you would have more courses to play already early on not forcing to play the same courses multiple times. The main game experience lacks courses, but there is multiple meta games is the app (upgrading balls and clubs and collecting diamonds, coins and opening coffins and new courses ). I would love to just have a great core gaming experience. Otherwise, the idea is great and the game is hooking :)

Just played and won weekly competition. Then I see that I did not get the chest or money but competition time extended one week. Very sad now.
