The entire GRE wordlist is selected and defined with usage examples by Magoosh’s expert GRE tutor, Chris Lele. He has been teaching the GRE for more than 10 years, runs a popular vocabulary series on YouTube and he’s also written an eBook on vocabulary. How well will I learn the words?

Academic research has found that memories are formed by repeated exposure to new information, so Magoosh’s flashcard app uses a spaced repetition system. Words you are learning will reappear frequently (occurring less frequently the better you know them) and words you already know won’t be repeated. The GRE word list is culled to only 250 so that you focus on only the most important words.

Your practice will focus on the words that you need to review the most to make sure the words you learn will really stick.

Best app for vocab

Pretty good!

Definitions aren’t always perfect but was still very helpful!

Great app covering a lot of GRE vocab!

The app is user friendly and functional although would be useful to have a feature that allows flagging of words.

Very good app

Easy to use and navigate. Two issues I have though: 1- it sometimes cycles through the same few words too often meaning I miss practicing other words in the same section 2- the ‘Back’ button often freezes on my iPhone X meaning I have to force quit the app and reopen it

Brilliant app!

Helpful App

I'd like to cite what Chris said in one of his teaching videos - short and sweet. I found it more helpful than the heavy vocabulary book by New Oriental (新东方红宝书）. Although I tried to memorize all the words of the book, I'm afraid it's not a good choice (probably) for someone who lacks enough time. The greatest thing is the app is very convenient and handy (since you've got to carry your cell phone all the time). AND! You can use it without Internet! I love this feature since my phone goes 'no service' when in tube.

Absolutely excellent app. Had very little time to prepare and the flash cards were a life saver!

Essential GRE prep
