Grid Diary Reviews

Finally am able to journal every day

Akhlys on

I felt compelled to write this review as I was looking and the app doesn’t have too many recent good reviews. I can’t understand why not! I have always wanted to do a daily journal but have either found it too difficult to think of what to write, or thought of it as yet another “to do” that loomed over me which I would generally avoid doing. I have ADHD and suffer from depression and anxiety, all of which would be improved by journaling, but also make it more difficult to do! The reasons I think this app is perfect for me are: - I do not feel the need to fill in all the grids, one is enough to satisfy my “daily input” so it doesn’t feel like a big chore - having prompts gives me a starting point to jump into writing. I often find that it is much easier to move into introspection from here. - I love that you can change to prompts to something more relevant for yourself - you can add photos and images (this is very good for me as I take so many photos) - the text formatting options are quick and convenient to use - you can view the entries in a few different ways, for example on a timeline, from a calendar -it’s simple and clean visually, not distracting I should note I am using the free version and am finding it perfect for my needs. I am not entirely sure what additional functionality you get with a paid subscription, but I would definitely consider it if that were made more clear. I have recommended this app to several people in my life, and feel very happy to write a positive review.

I spent a long time writing my diaries, only to find out that they were not saved. This has happened at least five times. And today I just found out that it happened again to a few diaries that I wrote a year ago. They simply disappeared. This app has very nice features, and I did want to stick with it, but unfortunately, it lacks the most fundamental feature: SAVING THE DIARIES! I am very upset by this. I have complained to customer support a few times, but they completely ignored me.

Don’t waste your time

AWFUL app! I wanted to use this “journal” as a journal but you can’t even do that. It lets you type out a whole page but there’s no way of actually having pages. You can just send it as a text or save it to your gallery. Useless. If you want an actual journal you have to pay it seems.

Absolutely fantastic

This app is extraordinary. The rationale behind it is great and I’m honestly surprised that such little people have found it/ use it. This app is a game changer and I’m grateful to the sheer hard work and determination of the 3 clever and creative developers of it! Will definitely be recommending this to others.

Could be simpler…

Too much clutter on screen really on the main page. Also would love Apple Pencil support!

Does not support the "hide my email" feature

First red flag is that it mentions in the description that end-to-end encryption means that your data is private. That's not true at all. Your data is not encrypted in the developers data base. It can be read by the developer, processed or handed over to anyone else. It can also be accessed by any hacker that is able to get access to their database. It only protects from one type of attack called "man in the middle" attack, so does anyone website you visit nowadays, but that's not the cause of data leaks anymore. But then when I tried to give it a go anyway and tried to sign up with my apple id, I saw that was not given an option to use hide my email feature either. I find this very dodgy for an app of this sort. Frankly I'm disappointed they got an editors award for this app from Apple. Clearly no engineer was part of that decision. I'd stay well away from this app.

Terrible ringfencing of your personal data. AVOID.

Have been with them a few years now. Great app. Unfortunately they got greedy and disloyal to early customers and made an entirely new application called Grid Diary 2, and despite the fact you had already paid for Grid Diary 1, you now needed to pay a subscription for the new one. Of course you can export your data, but have fun spending hours if not days sorting through it into a new application. Must be illegal what they're doing in some way. AVOID.

I backed up my diary everyone I add something. Then it suddenly logged me out. When I logged back in, it said I need membership, which means £21 per year?!

Awesome!

This is a game-changing journal app. I never thought I’d be tempted away from my paper journal but this has done it. The layout and prompts are perfect and I love that you can customise them for your purpose. It’s made journaling so much more accessible and something I add to through the day. A huge boost to mental health through the process of expressing gratitude and capturing reflections. Also love that it reads the data from my Apple Watch so I can capture my steps/calories etc each day as part of my end of day check in. Monthly and yearly check ins are fab too. Looking forward to using them.

Solid app
