Good concept, saturated platform
Over saturated platform. Good pictures aren’t necessarily rewarded. There is a level of ‘help’ for friends and team mates to raise their levels. Some guru’s don’t actually have a clue and only obtained guru status because of their friends giving them priority. Not recommended if you are wanting to build your confidence as a photographer. Recommended if you like having a carrot dangled in front of you.
Pay to win
Lots of interesting challenges and events but its a pay to win game. Buy boosters and whatever to increase the likelihood of people voting. I thought it was a new app because of poor UI and everything but later realised it’s an old app. But I loved the concept behind.
Unfair, unfair, unfair
I put 4 different photos that sold over $200 into lots of different competitions and I got all my competitions to max exposure. Every time exposure dropped I would go and make it max again. Then I went off the app after a couple of hours and went to sleep. The next morning I went from 2nd place to 462nd just because I wasn’t active. Really bad and terrible photos were all over the place which included number 3. Overall I would rate this a horrible app and only want people to just be on they’re app 24/7 and wastes people’s time. I highly recommend not even bothering to download this app.
Quick and easy to use
Really fun and easy to use. GuruShots Photography has really helped me grow as someone that didn’t know anything about photography but really wanted to get into it. I absolutely love it!
Super glitchy
It was super glitchy and I couldn’t even create a profile (initial setup) properly
It’s ok
I like the app.. share some photos and get votes.. voting slows down after a while.. not too fussed.. second guess the photos taken.. might make me sound bitter but is there a filter to remove photos that are actually professional photos?.. I think asking what level photographer you are could put you in ranks.. there are some “newbies” I believe should be at a higher level when they start.. I’m saying this because I downloaded the app in hopes to get better at photography.. thought there might be others who could comment and help me out with lighting, angles etc.. maybe offer more exposure to those who comment 🤷♀️🤷♀️..
Not happy with voting
The app concept is good, but you will find out very soon that you would have a small window to show the pictures! In one of the assignment my photos has been voted 1150 votes over the 2 days and not been voted at all in last 3 days, however the exposure boost is in highest level. Would recommend it to anyone.
Let down by the algorithm
The concept of the game is great, based on a voting system to rise up the ranks, but you quickly find out that you have a very narrow time frame to capture the attention of others, no matter how good the shot may be. So in a way it’s even more brutal than the real world (i.e. Instagram). After the initial rush you are left trading your votes on other people’s images for barely any exposure on your own images. Wouldn’t really recommend for any serious photographer. (I have got several All Star ratings as a Newbie so this is not written out of bitterness, but as an observation)
Slow & clunky
Concept seems great, downloaded app, wouldn’t sign in with Instagram - kept throwing me back to start screen. Finally got in with email sign up, then would load photos of device, would crash back to start screen. Pity, seemed like it could of been fun :/
