Ham Morse allows you to practice morse code on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It is designed particularly for Ham radio operators and others who wish to achieve or maintain a high level of proficiency in this classic mode of communication.
Ham morse has the following features:
The code is sent using the Farnsworth timing whereby the morse characters are sent at 15 words per minute (WPM) and then extra spacing is added to slow the overall WPM to speeds slower than 15 WPM. The farnsworth speed can be adjusted if you wish to use a speed other than 15WPM. The maximum speed that the morse can be sent at is 50 words per minute. The morse audio waveforms have a 5ms rise time to reduce key clicks and yet provide crisp code to copy.
The audio frequency can be varied from 220Hz up to 900Hz. A typical value might be around 700Hz but a lower tone can be very useful in some situations.
The code can be paused just in case you are interrupted or want to take a break, an incoming call on an iPhone pauses the code automatically.
To help you learn the morse code itself HamMorse allows you to practice a variety of sets of characters from individual random letters all the way to the current news stories from around the world.
Koch - This setting uses the Koch character progression. It starts with just one letter and then you can add a new letter when you have mastered the previous character set. This is one of the most popular methods of learning the morse character set.
Letters - Practice the individual letters, A-Z. Add new letters to your practice set using the settings page.
Numbers - Practice the numbers, 0-9. Which numbers you practice can be controlled on the settings page.
Callsigns - allows you to practice receiving random amateur radio callsigns, a mixture of letters and numbers (eg AA9PW, G1SNT, G5RV) that often prove troublesome when copying code on the air. HamMorse creates a wide variety of international callsigns using the standard ITU prefixes to provide useful practice where ever in the world you may be.
Punctuation - provides a wide variety of punctuation and standard morse code prosigns.
Top 100 and 500 most common words - this is a great way to start to recognize whole words the key to really improving your speed.
News feeds - these provide the opportunity to copy real sentences and keep up with the news at the same time. Note that the News feeds will only work with an active network connection.
Ham QSOs - listen to examples of typical on-air exchanges between ham radio operators - practice coping the callsigns, RST reports, location, rig, antenna and many other pieces of a typical QSO.
Accessibility support - The app also has support for Apple's accessibility tool, Voice Over. When Voice Over is activated each button and field has an audible description available describing the button or slider and its use.
Text Delay - As an additional learning aid You can have the text appear a few seconds after the morse code is played so you have time to copy the letter before it appears on screen.
Text Filter - Filter out characters from the News feeds or QSOs that you are not yet familiar with so you can start practicing with real text even if you don't yet know the whole morse character set.

Brilliant app, love it
This is a great app. I’m trying to learn morse at the moment and like most people I’m finding it quite difficult!
What I think would perhaps be useful, would be to be able to vary the weighting between the dits and dahs, and also set a fast letter speed but slower word speed - I’m interested in getting the rhythm of the letters in my head but finding that the pace is a little too fast if I have the letters fast.
Overall though, brilliant app and totally useful for learning. The news feed feature is brilliant!
CW for radio amateurs
A brilliant app. Just got my licence and have been training myself using the app. Tried various apps and this is the best. It is very versatile in meeting training needs. Also try the web site .... also as good.

Great Morse app
Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn ( or like me revise) morse skill. Has great selection of methods to Rx code. Not just a translator, like so many other apps.

Simply the best app. Been using it on PC too,just google his call sign! Very clever programme.

Works perfectly - this is the trainer you want!
This application works perfectly and has all the features you'd want from a morse code trainer. You can set the WPM/character speed and the gaps independently, the tone and the letters to train.
The only thing that could improve it for mobile use is a text box, so you could use it without a pen and paper.

Good App but could be a Great App
Brilliant!
This was just what I was looking for to help me improve my CW reading, however there is for me a serious flaw, when the 'Words' button is selected I constantly get 'break' or 'equals' symbols which is so bad when all I want is 'Words'.
There is already a button for punctuation so why include it in 'Words'??
I have stopped using it until this flaw is corrected, it is so, so, off putting for me.
Also, if I was being really critical, I would have liked to be able to have the app running in the background so that I can lock the 'phone and still listen to the CW while I walk about, but this is not possible in its current configuration.

This app is not really for any one with just a casual interest in morse code;
Its aimed at ham radio enthusiasts who want to improve the speed at which they can listen to and decode morse code.
I learnt morse years ago and never used it, so I forgot it all.
This app can really bring you back up to speed. I have had it for a couple of weeks and my morse is now good enough to go on air . I've had 6 CW contacts in the last week and I'm much better at reading the cw chatter on the amateur radio bands.
Of course you have to put a bit of time in but at just 3 quid for a morse tutor you can carry around with you, you can't go wrong.
Other folk have mentioned a few improvements or bugs but I've not found any problems and I particularly like the call sign section which mixes letters and numbers; something I find really tricky. There are no problems that I can find at the speeds I am using it , about 10-13 wpm.

Just downloaded this app.
Very good overall but I have a gripe,and hopefully can be changed in the next update.
Why when one is using the letters it only sends in groups of 5 letters? This is hardly realistic...
Have not got round to the other modes yet, but I can already see this app has just saved me a load of money as no longer need to buy a morse tutor as this is just as good!
It would be unfair to give 4 stars just because of my one gripe, so 5 stars!
