Description

Do you want to get your weather charts without using an internet connection or a dedicated computer? HF Weather Fax lets you receive marine weather radiofascimile transmissions, using the audio from your HF marine radio. Just set it next to the radio's speaker or headphones, tune in a weather fax frequency, and watch the images come in. The app can also receive audio from Bluetooth audio devices.

HF Weather Fax is perfect for mariners who want to be able to view the latest weather reports and forecasts.

Received fax images can be manually or automatically saved, and viewed later. You can also export them to your computer using iTunes.

There is also a built in copy of the NOAA/NWS Radiofacsimile schedule, and an option to download the latest copy of the schedule from the NWS website.

Visit the support page for step by step instructions showing how to use the app: http://www.blackcatsystems.com/ipad/iPad_HF_FAX_Weather_Fax_App_FAQ.html

Buy your copy right now, and start decoding and displaying weather fax transmissions in minutes.

I use a web sdr on my iPhone, then put my pad next to it , image received is clear and good , some fine tuning on signal is required, very good...

Really simple to use with great results

I'm new to shortwave and when I read about weather fax I just had to give it a go. I just used some headphones going from my radio to my iPhone mic and it worked pretty well. The app is very easy to use, so I highly recommend. Thanks!

Superb

Going offshore sailing soon on a yacht with no long distance comms so going to give this a try if the results are as good offshore as home then it will be really handy. Need to find the audio link unit for the iPad to get away from using the speaker. For the price it is amazing! Dick Smith

Well worth the asking price.

Easy to use and works a treat. No cables needed, just place the Iphone near your radio and tune in to weather station. Hard to believe how simple they have made this software..

Very good results obtained with direct connection from HF receiver to iPad using Griffin's iMic. The iMic is connected to the iPad via Apple camera connection kit.

Like the Black Cat Navtex app, yes it works quite well - BUT.... I have been using it just using acoustic coupling (i.e. propping the iPad up so that the microphone is a few inches from the radio speaker), setting the radio to USB and offsetting the frequency by the usual +1.9kHz and have received generally crisp, clear pictures - but there is one minor issue . If you miss the fax start signal, the resulting picture is generally offset and as there is no roll correction, this can make the image difficult to interpret, particularly when the part of the picture in which you are interested is at the edge and split across the screen. The sorting seems to be alphabetical rather than by date, but it sort of works. As a note, to get the app to autostart at the beginning of the fax, the Start/Stop button has to be on Stop and the Auto/Off button on Auto. As it is, I have given it a 4/5, if the minor issues were fixed, I would give it a 5/5 Angus

Fat Chance

The boldly displayed weather fax pics here are about as inaccurate an impression as you could get. I dare say you might get this if you had a full-blown radio ham setup with a huge antenna and it was the ideal time of day (or rather night) but for most of us what you'll get is best visualised by covering the printed map on the app with a layer of kitchen towel and seeing if you can make out there is a weather map there behind it or not. I have tried with my digital portable Sony set and get nothing whatsoever during the day and the above grey fuzz at night. It is just possible to make out lines in the mush of noise but nowhere near legible. Downloaded date from tuneable stations on the Internet worldwide are no better. No doubt a direct cable link would avoid some of the inevitable losses via speaker and mic but from what I've seen I'd be surprised if it worked well. Still, you may be lucky but for anything even remotely reliable make sure your signal is crystal clear with no background noise - and that just ain't HF is it? Good luck. Mind you, two quid isn't a lot to lose but all the same...

Does what it says on the tin

I was capturing weather faxes from Northwood in the UK and Hamburg in Germany in minutes with this app. Takes a little adjustment of the iPad microphone position to get a clean recording from the radio speaker. Once achieved, images come through fairly cleanly. Only niggles (hence 4 stars) are some redraw issues when panning and zooming of the captured images, especially in portrait mode, plus one crash to desktop when viewing an image.
