Description

This is the app for guitar, bass, and strings players who need realistic woodwind instrument sounds for recording or live performance.
iFretless responds naturally to the the finger movements strings players use for vibrato and sliding between pitches. Using those techniques, the app gives a more believable, natural imitation of woodwind sounds than traditional keyboard based synth interfaces.
It also supports midi input from EWI MIDI controller devices and keyboard MIDI controllers.

iFretless Sax Reviews

Good - but Tenor Sax needs fixing.

Asaph53 on

United Kingdom

This has some good sounds with plenty of options to tweak the eq and reverb amongst other things. Unfortunately as others have observed, the Tenor Sax sound is not very usable due to a pronounced percussive click at the beginning of each note. So far it is working well as an AUv3 in Cubasis and Dorico.

Hardly ever works.

Totally unreliable

Tenor sax needs fixing

DomAbel on

United Kingdom

Overall very pleased with the sounds and even tracks well with a guitar but there is a pronounced percussive click on each note of the tenor sax sound which is impossible to eq out and is immune to noise gates, it makes the sound sadly unusable in most instances.Would be a five star app if this is rectified.

A musicians app

On the plus side this is a very nice looking app, with excellent sounds and great connectivity, excepting AU. But it is very much a musicians app. In other words you will need to know where to put your fingers. If you are more of a dabbler, then Sensual Sax is probably a better option. Nic

Sadly is not good

Unfortunately this app is not good if you want to emulate the sound or even close to woodwind sound. I downloaded it to use with my Ewi but unfortunately every instrument sounds the same and not very good at that. I said sadly not good because I keep looking for an app that will provide samples as good as Samplemodeling does for OSX. Of course I'm being unrealistic to expect an ios app to be able to provide such quality but I live in hope.

Welcome back the old alto sax... And gone again!

Slowcatty on

Oh dear! This latest update has added a lush silky reverb effect (that really wasn't needed) and in the process removed all the raw and dynamic natural character of the alto sax I loved so much. Please put it back how it was and the five stars will go back.

Sounds great...

But the note “sliding” is the biggest downside of the app. Real saxophones aren’t trombones and one can not perform a legato on them. The app “Sensual Sax” treats these transitions more realistically, but each of these apps have their positives. Would just like to have more realistic note transitions available here. Thanks!

Error in soprano and baritone

This version seem to have bugs in the two instruments! The clarinet and alto are really good if you tweak it for your controller. Please fix the other instruments and test them with a wind controller like the Akai EWI 4000s.

Getting so much better all the time

As of 20191010: I really had not found much use for earlier versions of iFretless Sax, but, that may be changing for the better with this new update. The new presets I've sampled so far sound good for the kind of long-play generative noises I like to make. That said, I should also remark that I have been enjoying the other iFretless instruments for a good while now. I am tempted to boost this from 4 to 5 stars, but, I guess I'll run it for a few more days first (hopefully I won't forget to boost it). It is hard to make blanket recommendations for sophisticated software like iFretless as the apps can be used in different ways by people with different needs and skill sets.... The instrument apps (the only type from Mani I own) seem to consistently improve over time.

Are These Other Apps Getting Updates?
