Description

Both iron deficiency & iron overload can cause chronic illness. Iron deficiency is common, especially during pregnancy & in menstruating women, vegetarians and vegans and people on low-protein, ultra-processed food (UPF), restricted (eg gluten-free, dairy-free) and fad diets. Symptoms of iron deficiency include excessive fatigue due to anemia (which can lead to heart and other muscle damage), impaired mental and physical development, and immune dysfunction. Iron overload due to excessive dietary iron intake & habitual use of iron supplements may increase the risk of chronic kidney disease (especially among people who are hypertensive) & other chronic diseases. The app can also help people with hemochromatosis avoid iron overload.
Set your target daily iron intake based on guidance provided in the app and your preferences for weights of food (g or oz) and display of iron content in foods and beverages (ie, %target/serving, mg/100g or mg/1oz, or %target/100g or %target/1oz).
Record food and beverage consumption using the barcode scanner (please note that only manufacturers in the US are required to include iron content in the nutrition label read by the scanner), dictation, search or by favoriting foods and using the serving sizes provided (which can be changed at any time). Tap the notepad to add notes.
Monitor daily and long-term progress, export data to share with healthcare providers, synchronize data with other First Line Medical Communications Ltd nutrient counter apps, and share data with Apple's HealthKit.
Add your own foods and recipes and change serving sizes to personalize the app's 400-item database for you.
The app also provides nutritional information for many healthy foods and supports a healthy gut microbiome diet using color-coded type and icons as follows:
1, All high-iron foods (ie, contain more than 3mg of iron per serving) appear in maroon type.
2. Plants that can be included as one of the 30 different types of plant per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome and contain less than 3mg of iron per serving are in green type (with a green leaf icon used to indicate a plant in the food popup). Those that are particularly good prebiotics are in dark green type.
3. Probiotics that contain less than 3mg of iron per serving are in gold type with a gold microbe icon in the food popup.
4. Foods that are likely to be ultra-processed (UPFs) and contain less than 3mg of iron per serving are in red type with a red warning triangle in the food popup.
5. Foods in black type contain less than 3mg of iron per serving and are neither UPF, plant, prebiotic nor probiotic and are healthy when consumed in moderation as part of a healthy diet.

Iron Counter and Tracker Reviews

Not intuitive and lacking in catalog of foods

WCMedows on

United States

I want to like this app, but it doesn’t have the basic features needed, or simplicity for most people. I think if this product were a side feature or plug in for a food tracker like my fitness pal or something it would work. Those other apps lack tracking like this for specific micronutrients like iron, and for people that need that, this would be a great add. But this app doesn’t have the volume or variety of foods that one of those apps has, and people are not likely to use this AND that separately to track diet and iron.

Question

Sorry to write this here but can’t find another source for contact. Love the app but I’m wondering about the measurement. It says grams but is it actually milligrams. Seems all other iron info sites are measuring everything in milligrams and I just want to make sure I’m converting if necessary. Thank you
