The JBL Compact Connect is an easy-to-use application for tablets and mobile devices that is designed to offer complete control of up to four JBL EON ONE Compact PA speakers at a time. Useless….

The app used to work for me, despite how clunky and buggy it was I could somewhat use it to a degree that made it viable. Today, the app will not connect to my device. It has been like this for some time.

Do not update

I updated to the latest firmware version and now I lost all of my saved snapshots, the button for the EQ doesn’t work so it’s stuck in ‘speech mode’ which sounds terrible, the buttons don’t work for the reverb so you can’t choose between small/med/large reverb and the EQ button can’t be toggled for channel 3. DON’T UPDATE TO V.5.1. Also, software aside - the hardware is cheap and the power button has been broken and fixed twice now. This is cheap equipment. Purchase with caution.

Frustrating

The tutorial video from JBL starts off by saying “couldn’t be easier to connect 2 units using the JBL Compact Connect app…” well that’s wrong. Couldn’t get it going at the shop with the salesman. We have up.

App is not useable

Was excited to unbox my JBL eon one compact, but I have been unable to get the app to work with the speaker. I have tried deleting, re-downloading app, removing and adding Bluetooth, force quitting, opening in different orders and have run out of ideas. The speaker connects to my mobile Bluetooth, but when I open the app it won’t allow any options to locate or link to speaker. I am able to get Bluetooth music from Spotify to play through but no options to adjust levels via the app. I also have been unable to get reverb to work on a vocal mic channel. Extremely disappointed!

Clunky interface.

I bought the JBL rather than the similar Bose because it goes a bit louder and has a couple more features, but the user interfaces, both on the speaker and via the app, are very poorly designed. Like, knobs on the speaker that don’t let you see clearly where they are set; a ‘CH SELECT’ button labeled in small font that makes the controls unusable for inexperienced user (ie. most of the people in my workplace who try to use it). It took me ages to find how to get out of Demo mode on the app, which doesn’t seem robust enough for me to trust it at a gig. JBL make good hardware but they need to take some lessons on user interface.

Terrible in every way

This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Buggy, looks awful, completely unintuitive, horrible. Basically doesn’t work. Not good enough. Do it again. Do better.

Firmware update makes app stop working

I had to return my JBL Eon Compact. Straight after unboxing I updated firmware via JBL Compact Connect app. Then the app didn’t recognise my phone even though bluetooth was connected. I took back to the store and we tried on 2 different phones, but it still didn’t work. Please update firmware to avoid this problem for other users.

Please fix app

Everytime I use app I have to reset Bluetooth. Firmware is up to date, what the hell is going on.

Reset Option Needed!

Older version was buggy and eventually stopped communicating with the unit, worked on my iph7; ipad mini & ipad air. Now all 3 won’t work with the app including latest update. Bluetooth playback has been glitching too. How do we reset the unit for the app to work again? As firmware update cannot be done, without the app communicating with the unit! Come on JBL, I KEEP BUYING YOUR BRAND; but the app is unreliable.
