JBL Pro Connect FAQ
Is JBL Pro Connect free?
Yes, JBL Pro Connect is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is JBL Pro Connect legit?
⚠️ The JBL Pro Connect app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
I’m using an iPhone 11 to connect to my PRX One and, wow… it disconnects from the speaker all the time. Always if you page away from the app, but even while you’re using it, it will jump back to the main screen and you have to tap on speaker, wait for it to show that it’s connected, tap again, then go back to what you were doing.
I’m a singer songwriter mostly playing coffee houses and wine bars, so fortunately, I can generally dial in the sound I want at home - getting the compressor, eq, and fx just right - and just do main eq touch ups at the gig. But if I had to set up this rig for a new set of musicians, instruments, mics, etc. on site, I’d be worried.
The connection UX needs more improvement. It’s not obvious the difference between when you’re “connected” (shows a set of signal strength bars) vs able to click into the mixing page (the speaker name lights up). Some extra text plus a button to go to the mix page would go a long way.
Occasionally, it seems like either the mixer overrides the app or the app overrides the mixer and I hear something “kick on”, like the EQ is reset or the compressor threshold catches up to the changes I’ve made on the app. Not sure what’s happening there.
Once, I was changing parameters once on the chorus effect, and nothing was sending back to the mixer. I had to kill the app and reconnect to be able to make changes
Not sure how much of this is the app or the on-board Bluetooth on the speaker/mixer, so I don’t know which to blame.
I would love to have some kind of display of how much gain reduction is occurring in the compressor. You have to go totally by ear alone (which is actually a good thing in some ways), but getting at least an average dB reduction would help dial in faster
The amount of DSP and control you get on the PRX One is still worth it in my opinion. I have so much control of my sound which is marvelous. And as a solo performer, the subsynth effect is perfect for filling a room and sounding larger than life
Yeah hmmmm
Works but not very well.
Horrible user experience
This is the worst interface for electronics ever. Spend $1800 on the system and then have nothing but pain on controlling it. Start over.
1) no manual
2) no certainty with offered controls on parameters it impacts
3) slider controls for ALL parameters are a nightmare as they are laggy, insensitive jerky and barely useable.
4)pre-sets don’t show up on the speaker, only in the app
5) phantom power should have a lock out so if it is hit accidentally it doesn’t blow things up
6)many many other issues too numerous to mention. Start over
Even worse than before
Wow this app is terrible. The knobs jerk around when you try to adjust the levels and it’s very noticeable to hear. Now with the most recent update on the iPhone anytime you switch between apps or your phone falls asleep the app will disconnect from the speaker and it takes time to reconnect when you switch back. Now I’m needing to dedicate a device only to use this app so I can adjust levels live in a timely manner. I wish I had bought the Bose PA instead. It might be worth the extra money if their app functions at all better than this one. This app is really unacceptable.
“Updated firmware”
I updated the firmware of my PRX one and now it takes at least two or three times longer to connect. And not to mention, every time I lock my phone or even open the control center it disconnects the speaker so I have to wait 20-30 seconds to reconnect. I use this for live performance so it is extremely frustrating that I cannot rely on this app. The touch controls are very hard to control accurately with your fingers causing me to overshot the gain and cause feedback. There needs to be buttons or a way to type in the db you want to set sliders to. You can do better JBL.
4 stars
Problems reconnecting with app solved. Now the app stays connected to the EON 715 speakers.
Jumpy/Laggy, hard to be confident
I use this with PRXOne. Love the speaker and the amount of built in mixer channels/DSP compared to the Bose Pro16 stuff(big selling point). The app looked appealing as well as a convenient means of controlling remotely. It is convenient, but it is uncomfortably unresponsive, jittery and laggy. Maybe this is because it’s Bluetooth instead of WiFi? As an engineer trying to mix with an attentive audience during a 4 day festival for 8-10hrs a day, it is stressful and unnerving.
I’m not complaining, persay, but if there is a way to improve the stability and responsiveness, I would 100% without a doubt recommend this product to anyone it makes sense for. I hope you hear me, JBL :)
Hmmmmm…..
Well, I received a Charge 4 Bluetooth speaker for Christmas. I was thinking being to adjust the sound would be good. This app showed that you could adjust. I downloaded the app and it cannot find the speaker when searching, Bluetooth on and in search mode. The app does not see or connect to the speaker. Not what I expected- it doesn’t work. I should have read the reviews before wasting my time.
JBL PRX 1 app
I absolutely love the PRX ONE! It is a fantastic unit. Easy to set up, and sounds fantastic. The app however can be frustrating. The slider controls are especially a problem. They are so jerky that making adjustments in a live show can be a problem.
I think that if the control app were to improve, I couldn’t imagine a better sounding, easy to use PA. I’m hoping that JBL will correct those issues and then I will be highly satisfied!
