Excellent option for putting your photos in the cloud
I wanted to like using the photos app with iCloud but for the 10+ years of photos I would have been paying more than I can afford for iCloud. Jottacloud gives me unlimited space for a monthly fee and with it I can store any files plus all of my photos. This app has had some machine learning improvements lately, which makes all the photos searchable. It seems they are using CLIP which does any amazing job of finding photos based on detailed descriptions. It’s great to find that one photo from 7 or 8 years ago, or to see every picture I have of a plate of food, or a child holding a puppy, or a beautiful sunset, or anything else I’m looking for in my photos. Also works great with google Chromecast for putting photos or videos right onto the tv directly from the cloud. Another great feature is the photo map for when I want to see all the photos from a specific location.
Great but bandwidth limitation is terrible
Love the service and the app but the bandwidth limitation is just terrible. They won’t consider changing it or allow affordable plans without the limit. Unlimited doesn’t mean much when it takes days to upload your files.
Beware the unlimited storage
I’ve used Jottacloud for five years now, it’s rescued my files when two hard drives failed. But now that I’ve hit a certain level of storage, they are accusing me of violating the terms and conditions which is false and they admit to going thru my files that are “privately” stored. They are giving me 30 days to try to download 10 TB of data! The only recourse is to file a complaint with the Norwegian government and I am going to be doing that!
Useless
Unless you treat it like a harddrive in the sky and just dump all your folders from your computer into it (cheap storage), the app and it’s backup functionality is utterly butterly crappola. Its a unified mess of different device apps into one folder.
All I want is device specific backup, not a mess of thousands and thousands of pictures from two phones and an ipad into an unified folder. Seriously, not even wort trying as a backup solution. It is cheap storage though...
I don’t like how I can’t use without WiFi
I hate how I have to use WiFi to get to my own photos, please changed this because when I’m in my family trips I like to share the photos I can’t because I need WiFi to use it
App Quits Before Loading Since IOS 12
Very frustrating. But when it worked, it was the best backup app ever.
Hope they fix this.
The Best I’ve EVER Used!
I’ve tried Google Drive, One Drive, Amazon Drive, Dropbox and others. But Jottacloud beats them all, hands down. No silly rules about downloading content back to my devices or complicated or limited syncing. “Unlimited” is “unlimited.” The fee stays the same and doesn’t go up based on how much content I store. Backups to my entire hard drive are easy to do and separate from my sync files. I can backup any device I want easily—no iCloud upgrading necessary! Customer service is great and, other than being physically located in America where some people think they have a right to access your content no matter where it is because it’s on an app on your US-located devices, I have real privacy! Why can’t everything be like this? Thanks, Jottacloud.
iPhone photo backup
Can this app keep the modification made to the photos? Every time. Modify a picture in my camera roll whether the photo is live or just a regular edit or color, every time I save it to Jotta it reverts the photo back to the original state. Can this be corrected?
New app works slow with iphone 6
The new app used a long time to index before backup started. I was told by support it is due to iphone 6’s lack of memory. Tip: close all other apps, turn off background refresh, turn off auto lock (keep it open as long as posssible). This will free memory and indexing will go faster. I hope they can optimize for iphone 6.
Camera backup does not work at all
Camera backup used to work perfectly in the old app. Jottacloud was my trusted backup system for all sources - iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows etc.
Unfortunately there are multiple problems with the new app. Most important that backup don't work. First I had to reinstall (after talking to support) since it never managed to start backing up. Then it doesn't manage to do background uploading. I had to turn off iPhone screen lock and leave it overnight with Jottacloud in the foreground, for multiple nights. In theory it got nearly done, with only 124 photos remaining to get backed up. However, absolutely all images have the "waiting for backup" icon so it's not possible to know which. It also never managed to backup the remaining photos. Sadly, I need a backup solution that I can 100% trust. This is not it, while the old app was. It's hard to understand why they had to push this new app on us when the new photo functionality is almost non-existing anyway, and doesn't compare to competitors. The app often take 5-10 seconds to open up, and crashes frequently when switching back to it. I need a backup app, not a wannabe photo app. It was all good when their photo app initiative was a separate app you could choose to use or not.
