Description

Liberation Philology German helps you improve your knowledge of the German language through practice-driven memorisation.

Whenever you have your phone and a free moment, it offers a continuous multiple-choice test on German vocabulary, nouns, and verbs. Each answer you give is immediately confirmed or corrected, and your knowledge is reinforced by repetition.

• Vocabulary: 500 levels, each testing the translation of 10 words between German and English. Interspersed among these are cumulative levels reviewing what has been learned earlier (giving a total of 563 levels).

• Nouns: Test your ability to parse and decline a representative selection of German nouns.

• Verbs: Tests your ability to parse and to conjugate regular and irregular German verbs.

A further Reference module allows you to review the vocabulary word-list, and the noun and verb paradigms.

Excellent app

Ed@1975 on

This app is really good for learning and drilling vocabulary, declining nouns and practising conjugating verb forms. The content is considerable and the level of training is in-depth. One cannot quibble too much with the basic concept. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Well some improvements could be made. For one the vocabulary testing should be based on word- frequency studies, which is apparently not the case now. You should start off with the most common words in the language and gradually progress to the less common ones. Next, I would like to see some way of Favouriting particular words you want to test later into a separate list. That would be a splendid and extremely useful feature as at the moment you can only keep drilling a word by staying on the same level all the time. Then I would like the option of adding your own words. Then I would like to see other ways of testing you on the words than mere multiple choice, which isn't necessarily always the strongest way, such as by making you type in German counterparts of the English words. That really would be challenging. Finally the app includes 180 model verbs fully conjugated as a reference. I would like to see many more verbs than this (some store apps have 1500+) and the ability to search them. What a powerful reference tool that would be. Overall, then, this is a superb app and very useful in improving your German vocabulary and testing some aspects of your grammar knowledge. A few extra features and it would easily warrant 5 stars. But even now for the price it's an absolute steal!
