I was going well until my latest lesson, in which nearly every second word was unknown to me. I nearly gave up, but started again today with a different strategy: I wrote in a notebook each unfamiliar word in both Hebrew and English. This was laborious because I’ve never written Hebrew letters before, so my letters were badly written. I lived in Israel (1962 - ‘67) on kibbutz and IDF, could speak and understand simple Hebrew but was illiterate. I will persist, but at a much slower pace.
I’ve used LingQ for almost a year to learn new languages and keep my other languages fresh in my mind. LingQ is really easy to use, available as an app or on my web browser and allows me to import content in my TL to learn. This makes it way more fun than learning from a grammar book as I’m able to concentrate on things and topics I find interesting meaning I want to go back! I can’t recommend LingQ highly enough- I truly believe it is the best language app for learning multiple languages from a beginner to a more advanced level.
Great app, lots of in built content but the real value is in bringing your own content in and turning it into learning material.
Import content from Netflix is revolutionary - everyday vocabulary that I get to choose myself from my favourite shows.
I’m learning Japanese and just using the free version. It really helps just hoping there’re more out of the box learning material. Secretly hoping the price comes down a bit.
The lingq system and website is a truly great way to increase your fluency in a language. Basically it's a huge library of audio recordings and transcripts in your given language. The idea is that by reading and listening for pleasure you significantly improve your brains familiarity with a language. When you have a new text the website highlights any words you haven't yet come across and offers up definitions that allow you to quickly add them to your flashcard list. The iphone app basically allows you to review your current texts and particularly the accompanying audio so you can listen to it when you have a spare moment. It also has a daily review of your flashcards. It really does afford great ability to learn on the go. It would be good if the daily flashcard reviews indicated when you had completed them. And the badge didn't reset just by openingb app. It'd be also good if you could easily add words to the word list just from your experience in other parts of the world. Also if you could have it auto play from lesson to lesson. Anyway the webservice basically cost $10 a month, but i tried a lot of different softwares and methodologies out to help my language learning and this is definitely worth it. It's very good, but it also has a lot of potential for improvement and I wish the developers good luck.
Cool little app. But I've only managed to open it once since downloading it last night. I've tried numerous times and have restarted my iPhone5. The app won't open and will simply shut down on its own. Please fix this issue. Also after I click to download a lesson, I get a message that there was an error every time, even if in all reality I can use it fine. I didn't manage to save any words though. I don't think it works with saving words contrary to your claim. Please fix this also. And I'll update my review. Thanks!
I’ve had experience using dozens of language apps and I’m able to speak four languages and currently learning a lot more. LingQ offers content that’s enjoyable that allows you to absorb and more importantly spend more time with the language. The only critique I have is I’d like to see text to speech with the Persian.
Great tool for the self motivated.
