Clear & Easy

Jisho Japanese Dictionary on

I live and work in Japan and use the Tokyo trains all the time so I don't really need this as I speak and read Japanese. However, this app is very easy to use, clear useful for anyone especially non-Japanese speakers. It shows all the Tokyo rail lines, and stations can be shown in Japanese with English, or in English with Japanese, on the map which can be zoomed. You can enter start and end points and the route will show on the map and all the stations flash in order so you can follow the route including changes of line en route. You can find any station and any line and type in station names in English or Japanese kana or Kanji. I think that if you have GPS it will find your position but I don't have GPS as I use it on my iPad Mini so I can't comment on its GPS abilities. I like paper maps but this is still extremely useful. If you can read or write Japanese you will be able to use this app more fully but even if you only speak English it is extremely useful for planning journeys and keeping track of where you are en-route. I bought the paid version as it is very reasonable and I don't like ads. This is a train map so you will still have to find your way through the actual stations which can be quite confusing if you are not used to them. However, Japan is safe so that is half the fun of travelling! Excellent app all round.

Always online???
