LP Old English

It seems to be useful if you already know proper pronunciation but as a new learner there’s no help. Bummed I spent the money before knowing this.

The app overall is quite good, however with the addition of an adjective declension key/practice, the app would be so much better. This would especially help for someone who has most difficulty in adjectives and needs practice in it, or for those who would like to revisit their knowledge of adjective declension. It is an important feature that would be necessary to completely fulfil the apps educational potential. The app in all other aspects however is quite functional, the conjugation and adjective declension as well the vocabulary features are perfectly splendid and reach the utmost degree of satisfaction, because they are not only efficient but user friendly. If an adjective declension feature were to follow this pattern, no doubt this app would be even more useful and spectacular.

No pronunciation help or audio makes this a pass for me

It was pretty expensive for an app but well worth it, as learning old English is a mighty task at hand and studying with a dictionary is boring at best. This app however; removes all the tedious work that goes into guessing what an old English word truly translates into and sets you up with some core vocabulary and knowledge that will allow you to truly start learning old English on your own afterwards. For those who wish to undertake the long challenge of learning an effectively dead language for academic purposes, to discover your roots, or just to have fun, this app will be great for getting you a ground level to start. It’s not really that complicated or over the top good, just simple multiple choice the entire way through, but to have it all clustered in one spot makes casual learning possible; unlike the dictionary lol. Vocab is great and all, but what we really need are lessons and sentences. Oh, and a pronunciation guide. This also goes for your gothic app as well.

This app is more like drills than an actual learning course. There are no explanations of grammar just repetitive mini quizzes. It would be useful as quick tests on information learned elsewhere, in a language course or textbook. It's usefulness for learning Old English is extremely limited. I had expected a basic language course with some instruction in grammar and pronunciation. It is not much of a value for the cost.

This app functions very well. Never crashes. Great for learning OE paradigms and vocabulary. Thankful for these apps!!!! Get this one!!!!

Not only is this the best Old English app I've found--it's also one of the best language apps out there. Definitely worth it--quizzes you on grammar and vocabulary (even vocabulary specific to Beowulf!). I cannot recommend this (and the other LP apps) enough. Thank you.

This app is exactly what I was looking for to help me with a basic understanding of old english. You won't learn the language from this app but it serves as another source to help you learn about the language.

I like the concept very much. Good grammar review. A problem is that the vocabulary questions are too few in number for such an app. Each vocabulary section tests about three or four words per level, asking the user to translate from OE to ModE, then it tests the exact same words from ModE to OE. An option in which one could continue to the next level without having to click back and insert the desired level would be nifty. If the author produces an update with these things in mind, I would be pleased and might submit a revised review.
