In Town and Gown Cambridge, was told to download the app to order and anything we try to order says “unavailable to order high street menu”… so pretty pointless using!!

Another app nobody needs

Businesses please take notice, a website does the same job, except then I wouldn’t need to download more clutter. Not everything needs to be an app.

Login is basically useless due to slow 2FA

This app is a canonical example of how to piss your users off with a poorly implemented 2FA scheme. Problems: 1. Restaurant has no 4G or 5G coverage so you have to connect to WiFi, and this means no SMS based 2FA, so you’re reliant on email. 2. Email confirmation codes take a long time to come through: minutes in fact. They’ll probably say this is a limitation of email. Yes, and no: why can other services that use email as the second factor, like Zoom or TooGoodToGo reliably deliver to email within seconds for 2FA? 3. This causes a couple of other problems. You’ll get fed up and request they resend the verification code. But, when you do this, the new email (which won’t arrive for several minutes at least) will contain a different verification code to the one you’re still waiting for. So when you finally do get a verification code email it will be the first (now expired) code, not the one you actually need, so you still won’t be able to log in. 4. From here, at least on iOS, there’s no way back to the screen where you can choose to checkout as a guest with quitting the app, and restarting it. Mercifullly, at least it will remember what you had in your basket when you do this. If you’re going to force 2FA on users then the code for the second factor needs to be delivered within seconds at the outside. If you can’t do that you’ve no business requiring 2FA. You should also offer WhatsApp and SMS as options (WhatsApp is really an alternative to SMS in situations where WiFi is the only connectivity option). What we have at the moment is the result of some real amateur hour event driven software architecture that offers a user experience that is incredibly poor. Nobody cares how great you think your software architecture is: if it can’t deliver a great user experience it’s a failure and more fool you for the no doubt considerable sum of money you spent building it.

Lovely, friendly staff. Few drinks not available, guess to be expected after festive period. Nice and relaxed atmosphere on New Year’s Day lunch time.

Very basic app. Can’t order glasses of wine, only bottles and can’t make Vegan friendly dishes vegan by having the option to remove ingredients. Don’t bother with the app
