My PBI journey
I have spent over 2 years now developing PBI models for our business. I am an accountant by training, so I had a clear idea about the kind of analysis we needed.
Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed by both the Desktop interface and Dax code. I have spent many years developing spreadsheet models and have some VBAb experience. In some ways, I think my speadsheet experience hampered my DAX and PBI growth path as my thinking was pre-conditioned. However, I saw want other developers were doing and watched many YouTube tutorials. I bought the SQL BI textbook, which really stretched me.
I have lost count of the number of models that I have developed. In the process I also needed to learn a bit of SQL to feed the PBI models. The models use virtual tables, DAX variables and Switch commands. I have used all of the visuals at some stage and my models normally have a series of filters. Most recently, I developed a Decomposition tree visual for one of our more complex Divisions, I have also started to experiment with AI.
I am 57 years old, but I believe l have learnt more in the last 2 years than the 20 years before.
Users are blown away by the power and simplicity of the tool, and it is becoming a vector for productive business debate.
This journey has been such fun for me, and time seems fly past when I am in development mode.
I hope this post can inspire others. DAX and PBI can be hard work, but the end result is very rewarding.

The power bi app
I am a self taught individual on Power bi. The well crafted design features on GUI made it much easier to navigate my way through the app. Well done!!!
Power
PowerBI just keep getting better.
Only challenge I have is updating reports when I make changes in desktop. Microsoft, please improve this.... it’s really annoying
That said, I’m just blown away by PowerBI.
Visualization
The visualization is amazing in Power BI.
iOS issue
Mobile reports work well on iOS but powerbi dashboards just hang while loading up
Power BI - Dynamic Reports
Power BI dynamic reports are excellent tools to demonstrate to management and other interested parties how different dimensions of a dataset can be viewed. It provides insight in many aspects that otherwise can only be achieved by rigorous analysis.
IOS 10 issue
There is a issue with iOS 10, the app does not authenticate and keeps asking to enter a password
