MIDI Guitar is the World’s first app to transcribe guitar playing into MIDI in real-time, with latency and accuracy comparable to expensive and inconvenient hardware MIDI guitar solutions.
MIDI Guitar is over 10 years in development(!) and based upon state-of-the-art polyphonic pitch detection and –prediction technology that can accurately recognize guitar playing and -articulation with very low latency and without spurious hits. The technology has been validated by thousands of guitarists over the years.
MIDI Guitar comes as AudioUnit plugin (AUv3) and as a standalone app which can host other iOS synth apps or send virtual midi to Garageband or other DAWs.
You need a guitar interface for best results. We recommend a digital interface (using the lightning connector) over analog (via headphone jack), preferably with input gain control. Using an acoustic guitar with the built in microphone works for some purposes but is not optimal.
The free version will interrupt every few minutes, asking you to buy an in-app purchase.

I purchased midi guitar 2 the full version from the App Store in December 2020 and had no time to use it then, it’s now January 25 2021 ,I try to load the app on my iPad 11 pro, and it simply crashes and just won’t load.I’m very disappointed. Pls do something about it cause it wasn’t cheap for me.

Cost is too high

Buyer beware. In order to get this working in any daw it requires the purchase of all 3 in app purchases for a whopping $56 CA. Not worth it.

YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO GET THIS!

This is a shockingly amazing and fun midi controller for those who can't play keyboards worth $&it. I have played clunky hardware based midi guitar interfaces before, and this blows them away- and it's on a phone!, although I mostly use it on IPad- more synth's. It works flawlessly with every IOS synth and studio app that I have tested- dozens. The IAP's are essential, although a little pricey, but for what you get considering the hardware versions are $1000 plus- ridiculous. I was turned on to the desktop version from this app, and it's even better with pro DAW's, and is also a great deal. How much fun it is to play pretty much every instrument on earth, with your guitar! The customer service was instantaneous for me when I had questions. Thanks Ole.

Awesome!

I was sceptical about this app and really put the free version through the wringer! I used a Les Paul Standard on the bridge pick up. I used an iRig interface for this as trying to run with just the guitar and the mic was alright but produced to many ghost notes (false triggers) I thought the tracking was very good with only the occasional false trigger. Virtual midi on the device worked great and I tried my various fav synth's Alchemy, Sunriser, Magellan, etc... I was using an iPad3 for most of the tests, the iPad1 also worked but I had to turn off the device and restart to clear memory, and even then some synths were having a bit of drop our (like Alchecmy). I tried midi over wifi to my PC using rtpMIDI, worked like a charm, here the iPad1 also performed flawlessly. For $20 to get a good quality midi controller for guitar!?! is really amazing.

I have tried every guitar synth related tool for the past 25 years and this is one of the most amazing! You can successfully take a regular guitar and use it as a almost perfectly tracking synth guitar with no special pickup, from iPad! I absolutely love how I can do this with my old guitars that I did not wish to mount pickups on... Even steel string acoustics work! Some soft synths in iPad will respond to the messages sent from midi guitar app better than others such as "sunrizer" or "thumbjam" which I could not even previously run with a midi controller! There are others which do not like what it sees from the program such as "alchemy" or nanostudio... But that is the problem of those programs currently not midi guitar. I have not tried running Via wifi yet, just direct using a line6 mobile in guitar plug. I love the portability of using an iPad, though compatible synths at the moment are a bit limited. I would love future plugins for my computer to run in cubase in a desktop situation which does the same thing too! I do have many older synth racks yet to try as well... And I would love to find a way to patch direct into them rather than through the computer and introducing latency. Anyway, great results when it works well. Midi guitar is the future of guitar synth!

5 stars if I could understand the IAP differences for MacOSvsiOS

Seems like I spent $20 on the virtual midi out component, but it doesn’t apply to the MacOS version, which I would be using just as much if it didn’t require another IAP … but maybe I’m just confused. I do know that the 3rd version of this app in Beta on MacOS looks and sounds awesome.

Miles would have really dug this app!

I’ve been toying with pitch-to-MIDI devices for over 25 years, first using a Roland GI-10 as it has a monophonic input. I’ve tried various pickup devices for my trumpet and this always seemed to be the weak link. I just got the P9 PiezoBarrel pickup and now this app really shines, but a good USB audio interface helps. Tracking is amazing. Tweaking the attack envelope settings in the synth app help to reduce the percussive effect of many sounds made for keyboards. The effects plug-ins add to the straight trumpet sound, and I can blend the regular trumpet sound with a layered synth. Miles would have really dug this app!

I love this app it is definitely a five star review all the way If its not working right your gain staging or inputs and outputs are probably set too high or not right try readjusting them and make sure permission for the mic to midi guitar is enabled too

this app is a dream machine

if you know what you’re doing… you can slowly strum a C chord on guitar and have a cascading chorus of vocals and stings playing along with each note. This paired with a midi note probably filter, or other midi fx and the possibilities are endless and the drag on cpu is not so bad. This app blows minds. This, idensity, and a drum machine/sequencer in your AuV3 host of choice (apematrix or aum), and some basic fx and you can make truly other worldly sounds. And beautiful sounds, etc. And yes, there is a built in noise gate, built in pitchbend functionalality, the ability to switch between mono and polyphonic midi output… like i said: dream machine
