Move the Turtle: Learn to Code

Like others, I was looking for the beauty of Turtle Graphics (without the bulk of Logo) and this looked like it. I so much wanted this to be a 5* application, but it is unfortunately far from that. The tutorials are very good, but exceptionally linear. If you don’t do exactly what the instructions tell you, it will not work. Worse; the instructions don’t tell you enough to complete the tasks and there is no indication of where you went wrong. The faults are many (the turtle doesn’t do what it’s told!) but it does look good. This will all cause disappointment for children and put them off learning a very useful life-skill. It’s a great shame as It would take so little effort to correct these faults. However, ’support’ are dismissive to the point that I was told I didn’t follow their instructions and therefore there wasn’t an issue with their software - if they actually listened, and played with their own creation, they could easily correct these errors.

There are bugs and the app support is not responsive. Do not buy

I first used LOGO over 20 years ago when I first started out programming as a 5 yr old. It was a great way to learn procedures and how you make up a program. It was also great for developing my maths skills. This app is much friendlier than the version I used but is just as powerful. There's no need to type in the basic commands, they are all available in the menu but you can customise each one in basic and advanced settings. The tutorials seem to get difficult quite fast but I was trying it out on my 4 years old, and older child might not find it as bad. This is a great app, well worth the money!

What a great little app! Perfect to use to support the teaching of logo in the primary classroom! My class will love play/learning with Move the Turtle app!!! It would be great to have a web site with more challenges to consolidate learning. Thanks again for a great app!!!

It's amazing because it's educational for children and it's fun. I like that it has chapters so that children can use it in stages. C. Aged 7.

Great interface. Fantastic tutorials, lots of projects to follow and a free composer playground to practise as much as you want. Seems to allow different user accounts as well. Very powerful. Seems bug free after an hour of use. Well done developers!

This is a great app for learning the basics of programming. For 8 year +. My only bugbear is that the "play" section is just a series of challenges that require the player to learn a new command for each. Better would have been to include a couple of puzzle levels after each new command is mastered - for consolidation and repetition. As it stands the complexity ratchets up rather fast for a 8 yo. To the developers - come on you could do this easily ! Or perhaps a website to outline challenges and solutions ? Otherwise this is really an excellent app.

For quite some time I have been looking for a way to teach my 7 year old the basics of programming since he has shown a interest in computers. This app is simple to use, very intuitive and a perfect example of the ways that the iDevices can be used for educational purposes beyond reading, writing and arithmetic. My son loves it and doesn't even feel as though he is learning but simply playing a game. The fact that it gives you problems to solve rather than simply giving you the ability to free move (although this option is also available) makes it a great learning tool. In fact I have played it just as much as he has! I am thrilled to have found this app and congratulate the developers on a well thought out adaption of a firm favourite from my childhood, which I am pleased to be able to share with my son.

Won't even open. Was looking forward to this game for our kids but can't even play it.
