Description

The official trip planning and mobile ticketing app from San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). MuniMobile helps you navigate the Muni transit network effortlessly and purchase and use fares and passes instantly on your phone—anywhere, anytime. Just download the free app, create an account and you're ready to go.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS APP:
• No paper fares to keep track of.
• No need to carry cash, count exact change, or find a ticket machine.
• Buy and use fares using a debit/credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay
• Store multiple tickets on your phone for future use.
• Pay a single fare or multiple fares for a group of riders from a single device.
• Register your debit/credit card(s) in our secure system.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. CHOOSE RIDER TYPE: Adult, Senior/Disabled/Medicare, Youth, or SF Access
2. CHOOSE FARE: Single Trip Fare for Muni Bus & Rail, Single Ride Fare for Cable Car, or Passports
3. CHOOSE QUANTITY: You can buy multiple tickets to use later
4. CHECK OUT: Pay with debit/credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay
COMMON QUESTIONS:
Q: Do I need to be connected to the Internet?
A cellular network or a wireless Internet connection is required to purchase tickets, but you can use/activate your tickets offline.
Q: What if my battery dies?
Just like with paper tickets, you're responsible for making sure you have a valid fare at all times, so be sure to plan ahead!
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
• Activate your ticket before boarding.
• In the subway, activate (“use”) your purchased mobile ticket before passing through metro station fare gates. Show your active ticket to the station agent, and pass through the fare gate closest to the station agent booth. If the station agent is not present, you may still pass through the gate as long as your ticket has been activated. Do not attempt to “tag” the gate.
• On the surface, use your purchased mobile ticket before boarding the vehicle. You may board through any door. If you feel more comfortable boarding through the front door to show your ticket to the transit operator, please feel free to do so.
• For Cable Car, use your purchased mobile ticket once you are on board the vehicle. Show your mobile ticket to the Cable Car conductor.
• Watch your battery level! Just like with paper tickets, you're responsible for making sure you have a valid fare at all times.
• Create an account before purchasing tickets, as this is the only way you can transfer your unused tickets if you get a new phone. (Note: Only unused tickets can be transferred. Use up any activated tickets before switching phones.)
• Don't uninstall the MuniMobile app or erase your phone without transferring your unused tickets first. Your tickets are stored on your phone (which makes it possible to use them without a cellular network or a wireless Internet connection).

Better than the old app

karjoh07 on

More responsive and easier to navigate in my opinion

Take an Uber

llawbwall on

United States

Or, walk. The times displayed on this app are consistently wrong, so you ran to catch a train for nothing, and if you think the next one is actually coming in 16 minutes…just be ready for when it comes in 25. There’s no reliability with muni anymore and the cars are hit or miss in terms of safety because they run this system with a skeleton crew of (hardworking good people) who aren’t able to deal with the population utilizing it. If you have to be somewhere at a certain time, take an Uber or Lyft. If you want to see the 2010s SF in real life…take muni!

User experience got worse

The old app had a much better user experience. This one is hard to use and makes the experience unenjoyable.

App not fully accessible

Maiamoves on

United States

Certain buttons and functions of this app are not working properly with voiceover, wondering it nearly useless to blind people such as myself and students I work with. I have reached out on a number of occasions to file reports, and request that they label the buttons and fix the errors in order to make the app fully accessible to people who are blind and have other print disabilities. , I feel like no one cares and that once again accessibility and inclusion is spelled I N C O N V E N I E N T. Additionally, not an access issue but a practical matter, trip planner does not need to be on the front because I'm guessing 80% of the people using the app already know where they wanna go and just want to pay for their ride. Suggestion, please fix the app so it fully functions when running voiceover. Temporary solution: free rides until we can autonomously and independently use the app to pay for said rides. I am happy to increase the star rating once accessibility issues are fixed.

Unusable

This app is completely unusable. I purchased and activated a day pass, but the app refuses to show the ticket’s code.

Still UX unfriendly App

Steffy358 on

United States

Horrible UX, non functional live view. But most importantly Finally Apple Pay! Thank you for that. Unfortunately I bought a ticket I. The app and the ticket was SAVED ELSEWHERE -TO ANOTHER DEVICE. Probably to my old phone that I don’t have for a month…wtf.

Still Bad

Ans1222121 on

United States

As bad as the previous app. Sometimes works. Sometimes doesn’t. Bought a day pass and the QR Code on it is blank. Typical SF!

App is broken

BQuock on

United States

App no longer accepts my password. When I click on “Forgot Password,” it says an email has been sent telling me how to reset, but no such email is ever received. Tried several times with the same result, and checked spam folder. Please fix it.
