Music Made Mobile

Published by: LUMINARY ROLI

Description

NOISE is a free app that makes music mobile, so you can sketch musical ideas anywhere you take your connected device. Using easy-to-learn gestures you’ll create beats, melodies, and songs with a diverse library of sounds — all on the touch screen of your phone or tablet. Extend the musical power of NOISE by pairing it with ROLI BLOCKS devices.
A NEW APPROACH TO MAKING MUSIC
A glass surface becomes unbelievably musical with NOISE, which lets you make and shape sounds by drumming the screen, gliding your fingers along it, pressing into it, and lifting off. You create music through intuitive gestures on a series of easy-to-navigate interfaces.
A HIGH-POWERED MUSICAL SKETCHPAD
Not only can you perform music with NOISE. You can also produce. Start by choosing from custom-made sounds that range from to string sections to crunchy hip hop basses. Record basslines and melodies as loops of varying lengths. Mix and match your loops to build amazingly multi-layered songs — all within the app. Then export your project to desktop studio software and refine your musical idea further.
500 SOUNDS — AND GROWING
The ever-growing library of NOISE sounds include powerful percussion, sparkly synths, magic flutes, head-banging guitar leads, rousing orchestrals, and stunningly life-like acoustic strings and brass. World-renowned artists like Pharrell, Grimes, RZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Steve Aoki, and Rudimental have also created customized packs of their signature sounds. 35 sounds are completely free, and hundreds more are available through in-app purchases.
ROLI BLOCKS TAKES YOUR MUSIC TO THE NEXT LEVEL
The power of NOISE expands when you connect to ROLI BLOCKS, the modular music-making system. Pairing wirelessly, NOISE becomes the sound engine for the Lightpad Block and Seaboard Block controllers. Apply the musical gestures you’ve learned in NOISE to the pressure-responsive silicone surfaces of BLOCKS — and be even more expressive. Watch films and learn more about BLOCKS on ROLI.com.

Lovely hardware utterly ruined by terrible software

I really want to use my Lightpad Block more often. Unfortunately I only use it when the memory of the execrable software has dimmed to the point where I think “maybe I’ll try it again”. So less than once a year. It’s such a shame. The hardware is lovely, and begs to be played with and used. You just have to wade through the single worst software experience in professional music production. Mostly I just give up. Let me enumerate the problems: 1. It’s a confusing mess to figure out what bloated software you’re supposed to use to configure the damn things. They provide ROLI Connect and ROLI Dashboard. There’s also Noize. There’s also a promise of something called the ROLI Software Suite. I’ve never managed to install that because ROLI Connect is jealous of it and cryptically announces “Something went wrong”. No, really? You want to set up your device? Well that’s obviously Connect. Except wait, sometimes it’s Dashboard. And what’s this? Neither will connect the device via Bluetooth? Ah that’s a series of incantations and spells best conducted at midnight during the solstice. Got it. 2. The software spends more time trying to flog other bits of bloatware and announcing news and other irrelevancies instead of DOING ITS DAMN JOB and getting out of the way. 3. Support pages (which you will be spending ample time on) are woefully written and confusing. All in all, this evokes more sadness than anger. Oh the anger is definitely real when trying to connect a Block or something, but long term it reverts to sadness because the potential was there, but the execrable software destroys any possibility of either music or fun.

Non-functioning

I bought the Roli Blocks around 4 yrs ago and for the first couple of years they worked amazingly with the Noize Software and Equator player. However the company has clearly given up on the IOS software, which has not been updated in over 3yrs. On my iPhone 11 the app now crashes upon launching, Inspite of installing the most up to date firmware on my blocks via the desktop dashboard. The blocks were such wonderful creative tools for musicians and producers, but have now been rendered obsolete by a company which has not maintained its commitment and has shortchanged its customers. Such a shame

but you keep sending me emails about hardware and desktop sales. why don’t you ever put ios apps and iap’s on sale?

Bizarre app, odd cryptic interface

This is not the quality you might expect from Roli. I have Equator 2 on my MacBook which is excellent but this app merely consists of a 4 x 4 grid of coloured circles set in a largely black screen which when touched produce random sounds over which there is no control or parameters to adjust anything. There seems to be no potential for playing music at all or method to integrate the app with a keyboard, Roli or otherwise

ROLI apps clearly mothballed

Neenjahjon on

ROLI are still selling Lightpad blocks hardware but clearly the mobile app development has been mothballed. Noise is so out of date crashes out frequently and the UI is wonky because of ROLI not supporting the new layout standards. If you have no intention of investing in these apps, take them down, update your marketing collateral and don’t con anyone else into buying your hardware if they think they want to create on the move!

Doesn’t work

I have downloaded this 5 times now. Never works properly. I have a 2020 iPhone SE

Black screen...

I would give 5 star (besides the £ I have spent on the Roli Block and expansions) IF half of the screen on the performance page wasn’t completely black on my iPad Pro ...I was eagerly waiting for an update, which has just come, without bringing any improvement. Tapping in the dark trying to start a loop or record something is too ahead for me.

Black out screen

I loved this app and used it for years of creative fun but this new blackout mode where you can’t see anything is horrible I can’t see what I’m doing change it back
