It’s like when you fly on a plane. At first the sound of the engines is very loud. But after 10 minutes your brain tunes out the sound and you can read, watch TV or even go to sleep. You don’t notice the sound of the engines.
This process is called habituation.
When you are habituated to your tinnitus it no longer has a impact on your life. You don’t think about it and it doesn’t make you feel bad.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Oto app uses something called cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT has been proven to be the best way to tune out tinnitus.
CBT is normally delivered by talking one on one with an audiologist or a psychologist.
Oto now recreates this experience.
Each day you listen to one or two audio sessions that use CBT and other therapeutic techniques. You work your way through a structured audio program that lasts approximately 3 months.
The app then tells you to repeat and practice sessions from the program until you have tuned out your tinnitus.
HOW DO I START?
First, Oto will assess your tinnitus stage to then recommend a personalised plan for you. Habituation is when your brain no longer reacts negatively to tinnitus, so that you stop noticing it. Whatever your stage, we can help reduce the impact of your tinnitus.

You can listen to just 5-10 minute audio sessions each day which will introduce you to a range of clinically proven techniques. Exactly what I was looking for
I highly recommend the Oto app. I looked online at a lot of options and felt this was best for me. I got started with the 7 day free trial and within a couple of days was feeling like things were getting better. There is a lot to like but probably the best thing for me is that everything on there is positively focussed. For example the daily sessions and resources are all geared around “things will get better”. It has helped me on my journey with tinnitus a lot, it’s well worth giving it a try.
Great sounds!
I don’t suffer with unbearable tinnitus, only really notice it when I’m in bed but with or without tinnitus this is a great way to relax before sleep, highly recommend.
Opaque Pricing.
I have no idea if this is going to work but the pricing policy is rather un-nerving, £107.99 for 3 months. How is this justified and what happens after this time period? Also, a trial period of 7 days seems far too short to then commit to a personalised plan. The cynic in me questions the business model.
Amazing help
I have now been with OTO for almost 3 months and I have found the service to be truly amazing. Just listening to the lady’s voice every day really fills me with optimism and helps me to relax and improve my Tinnitus.

Great advice
This app is easy to follow with great advice on how to deal with your tinnitus. CBT is something you have to work with and the time scale to habituation is different for everybody. I’m not quite “there” yet but can see such a difference from when I first started and have already proved to myself that it works by hearing, at times, my tinnitus recede into the background. I would recommend the 90 day programme. What have you got to loose - so much to gain. Give it a go.

I found this app extremely helpful and soothing and it really helped me move on with my life with tinnitus.
Like a life line
I have found this app so useful . I have only been using it for a few weeks and although my nights are still challenging I feel reassurance that the team are there if I need them. I am taking my time with the Therapy I am finding I need to go over things again and again to really get the point of what is being said . It’s early days and I am hoping that I will be able to fully habituate in the months to come . I have signed up for the 1 to 1 as I am keen to making the most of the skill and expertise of the team . You are offered a free consultation which I took and spoke with Dr Ed Farrar who really helped calm me down as I never thought I was going to sleep again . Early days
Have only just started on this journey getting support with Oto, even though I’ve had tinnitus for years. I’m feeling hopeful, as I enjoy doing the sessions and it just feels good to be doing something, actively engaging with something, that might help. It’s also reassuring and comforting to know I’m not as alone in this as tinnitus makes me feel.
