Chess-inspired puzzle roguelike. Demo - single IAP unlocks full game.
The demo is ad-free. It contains a single character and dungeon.
Pawnbarian is a turn-based puzzle roguelike with bite-sized, but challenging sessions. Play cards to control your hero like a chess piece on a tiny dungeon board, outmaneuver enemies with their assortment of tricky abilities, and become the mightiest warrior of the Chesslands!
Features
- Use a deck of chess pieces to hack and slash through hordes of monsters.
- Pick up the basics instantly if you're familiar with chess, or learn in minutes if you aren't.
- Carefully plan your moves to navigate challenging, emergent tactical situations.
- Spend treasure to upgrade your cards with additional powers.
- Blitz through quick 15-30 minute runs - or die trying.
- Take on the infinite post-run Gauntlet to see how long you can survive.
- Pick from 6 characters to conquer 3 dungeons, all requiring an unique approach.
- Progress through Chains, a series of extra difficulty modifiers.
Not Features
- No permanent upgrades, and not much that needs unlocking. The progress and satisfaction come from your growing mastery of the game's elegant systems!
- No complex and varied builds. The shops provide a few key decisions, but the bulk of the roguelike depth lies in how you approach the emergent combat puzzles!

Please update
I love this game, it’s a brilliant combination of turn based strategy and rogue-like dungeon crawler (rogue fableIII got me into this genre) with some fun themes. Even the demo is fun on its own. But I wish it would update every now and again (though I understand that developers time is limited). Thanks for the excellent game!
👌
Great game just costs $6.99 but is totally worth it
Great game - Full version not worth it
Great game, really creative. Balancing my desire to not think with my desire to win a game. Unfortunately I found that most of the enjoyment was in the first few levels and the full version doesn’t feel worth it
Great chess puzzle
I’d rate with 5 stars if there were an option to continue playing without buying the full game. Ads monetization coupled with inapps works the best and could bring much more money to devs as well as enjoyment to more players. The old fashioned demo/paywall model is obsolete, especially on mobile platforms. Being an indie game dev developing mobile games I’m sure about that 😉 Other than that no complaints, great game design, graphics and sound 👍👍👍
Fun Puzzle Game
I enjoyed playing Pawnbarian and think I’ll buy the full game
Really fun game.
The gameplay is deceptive in that it looks like you can make quick decisions and survive but in actuality you need to slow down and plan ahead. It took me a 4-5 tries to beat the demo but it was worth it!
Good game
Best puzzle game ever
Great game
Great game, enjoyed it a lot. Its the next best thing after 5D chess with multiverse time travel. Sadly im too poor to afford the full game.
Not free
Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing game, but you have to purchase the full game to continue
Finally… chess 2 😈
This is unbelievably good for a phone game. Well thought out mechanics and I can already tell it rewards players who actually take the time to think about their every move. I love it
