Avoid it. Use Scrivener.
I made the mistake of trying Plottr and putting a fair amount of work into a writing project with it a year or two ago. I lapsed in my work, and when coming back to it, I was locked out of my work and had to renew a sub to access it to export it to Scrivener. The mobile app could not open my work, so I was forced to buy a year’s subscription to the MacOS app to actually open my work. I did, attempted to export and it failed because the file was corrupted. So I copied over the work to a new Plottr project to export to Scrivener - and only about 50% of my work actually exported to Scrivener properly.
This is a very poorly implemented, very expensive program that is simply not worth the money. Scrivener can accomplish everything this can and you can actually rely on Scrivener to function properly.
Skip if you have PlottrPro
I have a PlottrPro subscription and I LOVE THAT SOFTWARE but if you do have it this app is almost useless. I have a 2018 ipad and it constantly crashes, can’t work without the internet, and generally is useless. I only keep it on my ipad in hopes that someday it will be fixed because I love Plottr itself SO MUCH.
Must purchase a subscription to open the app.
It’s great to offer the perfect solution to a common problem, but having to commit a small payment to a unknown product puts it’s value to zero. Developers want to get paid, but there needs to be an exchange of trust with potential customers. If I cannot be trusted with trying an app’s interface, I cannot trust the developer.
Almost good but a waste.
The software is good but you are better off buying the licence for Plottr pro or desktop or just plot in your scrivener app because in Plottr iOS you cannot export your files at all. THEY ARE STUCK IN PLOTTR. What a disappointment after buying a year subscription to find out that after plotting out my entire book series my work is stuck in Plottr. I would have been better off not using Plottr and just do my plotting right in scrivener. So my question to the Plottr team, what now? What am I supposed to do with my information. Keep switching between apps when I need to reference something?
Work doesn’t save
Would be an amazing app if it saved your work.
Unfortunately closing the app deletes large chunks of everything typed. Really frustrating.
Would be worth the subscription otherwise.
Doesn’t save work
Worked on a timeline last night and this morning just to have to exit the app due to a bug and then reopen it to find none of my work saved.
Not a free app
You can’t even open the app to check it out without paying for a subscription on their website first. Uninstalled.
Synced easily
I have Plottr on my computer. It was easy to sync via Dropbox and while I have only begun to use it on my iPhone, so far I’m really impressed.
So sad that the app no longer syncs after the update of Plottr on my computer last week :(. Hoping it gets resolved.

Yay! It’s been resolved. Thank you. The developers of this app are so responsive and committed to improving its performance.
I’m using Plottr as a revision tool. The iPhone app is a quick way to add details when I’m away from my computer, and I love having my ‘Story Bible’ at my finger tips without having to toggle screens when I’m working on my manuscript.
Not Happy
makes you input an email first thing. even if your email is valid they will say it’s not. big disappointment. don’t download.
Doesn’t even open
I’m a writer that has just been introduced to the amazing world of plotting and meeting new characters, and I looked for apps that would aid me in my writing. When Plottr came right by me, I took the chance and downloaded it.
How great of a disappointment did I have when it didn’t even open. I suggest you don’t waste your time by downloading this app, then waste another hour trying to make a account for yourself.
