Prism Music Reviews

Does not support HD audio

FWAJMB on

United States

I use Plex to manage a large video and music library. Much of my music collection is 24-bit FLAC and a few SACDs ripped to .dsf. Prism down converts the HD audio to 256 MP3. No, seriously. I tried Prism because my wife was having difficulty streaming her music to our Sonos speakers. PlexAmp has a couple of extra steps, but I digress. Denon’s HEOS app slings the HD audio files to the AVR just fine, and Plex and PlexAmp play HD audio through my iPhone (with DAC and wired headphones). With Plex set to pass through and DLNA turned on, Prism is still down converting music.

Decent but too expensive

guitar_allstar on

Good interface, smooth install and import of my music, unfortunately it doesn’t quite do enough to justify the cost. I need my music downloaded to my phone and Prism wants you to pay. Also this app hasn’t been updated in two years. Nuh uh! Not today!

Good stopgap for plexamp offline

HardlyWorkingLuke on

United States

Plexamp is my preferred music player but it uses too much data. Prism has a classic and intuitive UI. I especially like how it displays all of an artists songs on a single screen in the artist page. Syncing playlists and ratings between plex and prism works seamlessly. It’s very satisfying. My wants: Specify download quality akin to how you can set stream quality. My lossless music takes too much space when downloaded, so I’d prefer to download in 320 kbps quality. Reverse sort - maybe this exists but I can’t find it. I’ve only used the app for a few hours, but I’m impressed so far.

Appears to be abandoned

I like this app but it has some bugs that need to be fixed. The last update was two years ago so it looks like it’s been abandoned sadly.

Outstanding client for Plex-hosted FLAC

ShieldsPC on

United States

Absolutely loving having FLAC on the go. I’d give it 5 stars if it didn’t freeze on me so frequently. Interface is very clean. Functionality is fast. There are a few features I’d like to see in future updates. Namely the ability to truncate silence at the end of tracks when playing as part of an album. Like a per-album toggle for seamless back-to-back playback. I’d love to see this app get some updates.

It… just works! An amazing Plex Music App!

sm1ng on

United States

It connected straight away to my Plex server and loaded *all* my music, which was instantly searchable, in under 15 seconds. I double-clicked a song, and it played. Wow. This is an excellent app. Props to the dev 🙏🏻

Is this app still supported?

Crashing a lot and buggy lately - are any updates coming?

Fake Reviews

MelodicApex8 on

There’s a lot wrong with the reviews here, no way these people are comparing this app to PlexAmp and calling it better. This app is just like using the regular Plex app, PlexAmp is so much more mature and is a serious upgrade to the standard Plex app. The current song GUI doesn’t have a lot to desire. I use Synology for my Plex server that comes with a free Audio app that works as good as this if not identical screens. I came here expecting more but I feel like I was played! The app is nearly fully functional for me OOB, I do t see what I get for 5$ to open it up other than opening an existing playlist - that’s weird. It’s not clear on what I get for 5$ and so far am no way impressed. I’ll go try Jellyfin or maybe even Kodi, the playing song GUI is far more advanced than this app.
