Annoyingly
My sculling partner and I both have had rowing coach for a while. My last row is nowhere to be seen on my iPhone and hers won’t open as her sub is not acknowledged. It’s such a bummer because it can work really well.

App stopped tracking row so no map or distance now avail- can’t report it or get support as this is not working!
I've been using the app for a month or so now (on the water of course). When it works, it's great, but some small tweaks could make it much much better. Apple watch: - show current workout stats in always-on mode (like apple's workout app). Currently, on the Apple watch 7, the app shows the current time in the always-on mode. I have to twist my wrist slightly to see the current stats, which messes up my stroke. This point is super important because it really limits the usefulness of the app during rowing. - the current stroke rate is often not shown. It is recorded though so I can see it later in the log. I can't quite figure out why / reproduce it. About 80% of the time it's not shown. - add possibility to manually add sections by double tapping the screen (like Apple workout). General - sometimes the stroke rate is not recorded. Not sure why. - add automatic pause feature: when the time between strokes is over a certain threshold (eg, 10 seconds), pause current workout at last stroke. Automatic restart if more than 10 strokes in 1 minute.
I’ve just started on water rowing and this app is perfect. I can start it on my wrist using Watch and leave my phone in the boathouse. Gives some nice metrics including GPS data. I don’t us it on dry land as ErgData links to my C2. The upload to C2 logbook is awesome.
I want to like this, but, apart from the fact it’s unfortunately, and understandably, inaccurate on distance on indoor rows (200-300m under per KM according to my WaterRower computer), the bigger problem is the display of rows. For example, I just did an indoor row for 20 minutes, triggered from my watch, mirrored on the app screen, and half an hour later the app STILL isn’t showing the row in my records. This row is recognised by Apple Health, it even says the data came from this app. So the app DOES have it. But it still isn’t showing up, after several refreshes and full quit/relaunches. Also, I don’t really understand why there are some records in the app’s ‘cloud’ screen and some in the ‘home’ screen. All were triggered and finished in exactly the same way - from my watch, mirrored to my phone, indoors, on WiFi. Finally, maybe I’ve missed some instructions but despite there being a setting to have data uploaded to Strava, NO sessions are EVER uploaded to Strava unless I do it manually from the app. Surely the point of a setting to turn on uploads to Strava is to automatically upload to Strava? Overall, buggy and frustrating in how it saves and displays your rows, but it’s the only one that seems to record indoor rows reasonably well and sync them to health and Strava.
Works well with Apple Watch but the distance estimation needs a calibration factor for different machines. The app gives 1.8x the distance my rowing computer says. Can you add a calibration for the distance estimate?
I appreciate this app using Apple Watch on your wrist isn’t going to be too accurate on distance rowed. My latest row said I rowed 2000 meters in 5mins 45s. There again perhaps it is accurate after all. Makes me the 70-74year old world record holder. The old record was 7 mins 8s so thrashed it. Seriously if the app is consistent you can measure your improvements etc. Brian
This is quite a good rowing app. I downloaded the app after reading a review of best rowing apps. Using the app on my iWatch 5 with my WaterRower, I decided to see how the data in the app compared to the data provided by the on-board display. The stroke rate was very close, however after a 5km row (on-board read out), the app gave the distance as 8km. I understand that the distance is an estimate, but it was out by 3km, which is substantial.
This is a good app, for uploading to logbooks and for iPhone integration, it’s downside for me is a it’s distance estimation is inaccurate and the calories burned are way off in comparison to concept2’s and most online calculators formulas, which is strange as it should be a simple math sum and easy to fix..
I really want to like this app but have noticed several issues - starting a row on my Apple Watch fails to start phone mirroring about a third of the time - the app seems to have a negative impact on heart rate monitoring. Half the time I see spikes in heart rate (going from 90 to 150) which never happen when I am using the app. - average strike rate is shown at the end of a row but is frequently 0 during a row
