RTÉ National broadcaster should embrace the 80M + Diaspora?
You guys are seriously missing a trick and living in a bubble in RTÉ D4 Montrose. Riddle me this, yourselves and the government including President Higgins wish to embrace the Diaspora…well come on then let’s be a tad more inclusive, include more content from and about the Irish abroad. A fortune is spent on Saint Patrick’s Day trips with ministers travelling all over the Globe to the four corners and then some by our government. The Irish tourist board campaigns using millions of taxpayers on promoting the beauty of Ireland and the great welcoming nature of its people, but you could broadcast and stream most if not all of your TV content as you do your fantastic radio programmes and really kick start Irelands tourist industry while promoting its rich culture through film, drama, music, song, dance, comedy. Late Late show competitions should promote prizes that attract the diaspora back to the real Ireland with prizes for folks watching from abroad for a change, not promoting trips to Disneyland. I know it’s on the International iPlayer fir free but you guys have to push it, don’t just put it up there and say nothing…push & promote it. Hidden under a bushel ain’t cutting it. Christ guys the god damned diaspora are desperate to be embraced and included time for Montrose to start exploiting the World Wide Web and Sweep the Irish Diaspora and take our money. I laugh at your paltry efforts to fund the station..selling off the crown Jewell’s to pay your debts, are you crazy or just lacking in inspirational ideas…you do have a voice…lots of them….use the gifts that God bestowed on the Irish…the gift of the gab…the charm…the comedy…the craic….the cell…the cuteness….you heard of crying out loud….well just broadcast it & do it! But do it loud & do us proud. You want to win the Eurovision well who you gonna call….the god damned Diaspora…that’s who stupid…Australian Paddies & Mary’s, appeal to the Irish all over Europe to make that call…but let’s not neglect the new Irish either and their extended families all across the EU, Eastern Europe and beyond who could give us those vital 8 & 10 & 12 points…let’s get smart. Let’s reboot the Irish Sweep mentality…everyone’s a winner.
Thanks for making this Irish connection possible
This app is my only means of keeping in touch with Irish culture. A thousand thanks for making it available!
App Good, Ads Bad
The app is good and navigation is decent (but could be improved). The ads are frustrating and infuriating. If you lose connection for a second, switch to take a call or some other task that you commonly do on a mobile device, you are presented with an ad, and most likely the same ad that you heard when first opening the app. This seems to be a recent update as I don’t remember it ever being this bad. Was a four star, now a one star!
Frustrating
If you pause it starts playing ads again, very glitchy. Needs improvement
Invest in this App
Please spend some money on this app and get it working properly. You have some excellent content, but you are failing to make it accessible.
I love this App
A brilliant App. I love the plays - Sunday Miscellany and having just about everything at my fingertips. O use it every day 👍👍👍
New Ads Delay Streaming & Other Functions
<Update 4/5/‘24: Shocking behaviour! Autoplays even hours after I exited the app, causing great embarrassment. Noticed with iOS17/iPhone14. > Was a great app for years, even with a few annoying problems, such as: 1) unreliable link to iOS Play/Stop controls when screen locked, 2) even when streaming is switched off, when you exit a playback, streaming autoplays - and louder. WORSE, in 2021-03, they inserted a 30-second prelude ad DELAYING CONNECTION to live broadcasts (which already include ads). I keep missing live news headlines / programme starts. EVEN WORSE, the prelude ad PAUSES if you lock the screen or even begin to switch app! Streaming and everything else has to wait until you’ve listened to the entire 30 second ad! Forcing user behaviour change to compensate is annoying, or deal-breaking wherever non-adjustable environmental triggers (e.g. on the hour, etc.) drive traffic to the app. Update 2021-04-24: 1) I take 1 AirPod out, it pauses(!), I press Play, and there’s another ad before streaming resumes! 2) streaming stops when Stopwatch hits zero and it doesn’t resume - I do timed bursts and rests during workouts, so this app is useless.
Why ads?
I pay the tv/broadcast license.
I have to listen to the live ads.
Why are there more ads for the app?
Preferred the old App
You have ruined this App. If you play a programme and want to re-play it, it is not possible!
Why you have done this I don’t understand… it doesn’t make sense.
Very annoying and irritating.
It’s like whoever designed the App hasn’t a clue about listening to radio stations or loving a particular program, so if I fall asleep at night listening to Movies & Musicals - Lyric; Saturday afternoon show, it’s impossible for me to replay it when I wake up again… 🤷🏻♀️
Sound quality very poor
I use the app almost exclusively to listen back to Lyric FM programmes. I have previously complained about the poor sound quality where there is a click every five or six seconds, like a scratched vinyl record. It is particularly noticeable on quite vocal music but is there all the time. And once you hear, you can’t get it out of your head. I have also left developer feedback in the app itself, though I never got a response. Overall a poorly implemented app.
